What was drawing him into the woods? What was calling to him? Was it evil or good? His feet ached. Skins had him take a warm shower, then gave him bandages for the cuts. She left him with some coffee and went to attend her duties around the house. He wasn't exactly sure what they were. She kind of just wandered the place.
"You hurt your feet? Did you walk through glass?"
Jasper looked at the boy standing in the doorway.
"It was sticks, actually. I was in the forest."
"Why were you in the forest without shoes?"
"I don't know. I woke up there."
Freak tilted his head.
"You're very strange sometimes."
Jasper smirked.
"I know. Perks of being me, I guess."
Freak came and sat by Jasper.
"It must be scary to be you. Having to save the mutant world and all. Have you found the threat yet? Or learned to control your power?"
"I'm working on control still. And I don't even know if there is a threat."
"Well, there has to be. Why else would you be an Elemental?"
"I don't know."
Freak stood and went to make himself a bowl of cereal. He came back and said a whispered prayer with his head bowed, eyes closed, and hands folded. Then he started eating. Books came into the room a moment later.
"What the hell happened to you?"
"Uh..."
"Guess that means we're gonna train you sitting down today. You're not getting out of it that easy."
"I wasn't trying-"
"Yeah, yeah, bullshit."
Books went into the kitchen area for food. Jasper frowned. Narcolepse came in next with Roderick hiding behind him. The albino looked nervous and scared, keeping his head and eyes lowered. He stayed behind Narcolepse while he made two bowls and then went to the table. Jasper would've smiled if it weren't for the irritated expression on Narcolepse's face. They sat down and everyone ate in silence. Jasper was about to get up and make his own bowl when Books set one in front of him.
"Don't hurt yourself."
Jasper smiled.
"Thanks."
"Mhm."
Jasper started eating. After breakfast, the group cleaned up their bowls and went their separate ways. Books stayed with Jasper, collecting water in bowls and cups so they could train.
