Prodigy is about a group of juvenile prisoners from a futuristic civilization called Prodigy who are sent on what is essentially a suicide mission to a ruined Earth after their government discovers signs that the White Plague-the mysterious force destroying planets across space-may have originated there. At the center is Lilah Fletcher, a smart but emotionally overwhelmed girl who accidentally helps expose information about the expedition and ends up blamed for everyone being sent away. Alongside her younger brother John Benson, the reckless but deeply loyal McKenzie James, and a group of other teenage prisoners, she's forced to survive on an Earth that is both dead and alive at the same time. As the story progresses, it shifts from dystopian prison sci-fi into survival horror, mystery, and almost mythic environmental fantasy. The characters begin as frightened, angry kids discarded by society, but Earth slowly changes them. They form fragile relationships, uncover clues about what destroyed the planet, and start realizing the world may not be as dead as Prodigy believed.
