Chapter 45

* Jesse continued *

Football training went down without issue and as I picked up a water bottle and gulped down its contents I couldn't help but smile at the lone figure sitting on the benches watching intently.

It's not like Catherine only watched the games because I was playing, she actually loved football almost as much as I did.

It was one of the many things I loved about her.

Yeah I said it.

Love.

As I watched her sleep the other night, her body intertwined with mine it hit me, just how ridiculously crazy, head over heals, madly in love with her I was.

But I didn't dare say it out loud.

I just wasn't sure she was ready to hear it yet. My big stupid mouth had almost let it slip a few times these last few days but thankfully I was able to fumble through some lame cover that had seemed to work, well at least I think it did, but if she hadn't bought my weird ramblings she didn't say otherwise.

As coach dismissed us for the night I jogged over to collect my stuff and as I stuffed my water bottle and towel in my gym bag Beau walked past 'accidentally' knocking me with his shoulder.

'She's too good for you' He muttered under his breath as he walked off.

'Fuck off' I hissed at his retreating figure before a warm pair of arms slipped around my waist.

'You were amazing' Catherine whispered in my ear, her body pressed into my back as her head rested on my shoulder.

'Must have been the little incentive I got before training' I smirked.

Catherine just giggled in response as I slipped my gym bag over my shoulder and took her hand as we made our way to the parking lot.

After a short drive we pulled up at my house and we both walked inside.

'Cate!' My mums voice rattled down the hall seconds after we stepped through the front door.

'Hi mum, nice to see you too' I rolled my eyes as mum wrapped her arms around Catherine.

'Oh hush son, maybe I'd be more excited to see you if you stopped keeping Cate all to yourself' she smiled as she locked her arm with Catherine's and walked her down the hall.

As much as I told my mum it bothered me I actually really loved how well her and Catherine got along. Mum was a lot like me when it came to trusting and letting people in, so when she took a shine to Catherine so quickly I could only take that as a good sign.

'Ok lovebirds' I teased' I'm going to take a shower' I called over my shoulder as I watched the two most important women in my life disappear down the hall.

Fuck I was getting soft.

Having showered and changed I quickly packed some spare clothes in my gym bag and rejoined Catherine and mum in the lounge. I couldn't help but smile as I watched them talk and without hesitation I walked over and placed a soft kiss on the top of Catherine's head.

'What's that for?' She asked, smiling up at me.

'I just missed you' I grinned, adding a cheeky wink for good measure.

Catherine just laughed as she playfully poked me in the ribs.

'Your mum was just telling me she got a call back for that job she applied for last week' Catherine smiled as she returned her attention back to my mum.

'I was just telling Cate how amazing it would be, the pay is better than where I am now and I would actually be working normal 9-5 hours, instead of all the ungodly shifts I'm currently doing at the bar' she beamed.
