Jasey pov

"Holy shit you're alive," I say as Alex picks me up for school on Monday.

"I know, sorry my phone broke," he says.

"Hows Laura?," I ask.

"I don't know we split up after you two split up from us," alex says gesturing to me and Jack.

Jack nudges me in the shoulder telling me I should ask Alex about my birthday. I nod and look up at alex.

"Hey alex?," I ask.

"Yeah?," he says.

"On the first I'm having a birthday dinner and was wondering if you want to come?," I ask.

"Yeah of course," he says. "Is the first your actual birthday?," he asks.

"Um no Halloween is," I say.

"Dude that's cool we need to do something," he says.

"Oh I was thinking of just having a sleep over kinda of like what we did on homecoming," I say.

"Oh okay," he says.

"You can go," I'm gonna try and invite the whole group," I say.

"Okay," he says.

I nod.

---

"Jasey you're going home," my algebra teacher told me.

"How come you didnt tell me you were leaving early?," Jack aks me as I pack up.

"I had no idea," I say.

"Oh," jack says.

I nod as I throw my bag over my shoulder and walk out.

---

When I got in the car I noticed my grandma had gotten me food. I was thinking this was an early birthday thing but my birthday is not till towmorrow.

"How come you picked me up," I say as we leave the school parking lot.

My grandma looks at the road, looks at me, then back at the road. She takes one last look at me before speaking. "Your mother is in jail," she says.

I didnt say anything. Yes, I still had a grudge for what my mother put me through, but I thought she was done. I thought that we could finally have a mother daughter relationship. I guess not.

I took a sip from the soda my grandma bought me.

"So you're not mad?," she asks.

"Oh I'm pissed," I say putting the drink down. "But it's not surprising,".

Grandma just gave me a small smile.

"How the hell did you raise two fucked up children, but raised a semi unfucked grandchild?," I ask looking out the window.

"It was your father," she says. "He was best friends with your uncle in high school and got him all fucked up, then he started to date your mother, then a year later you were born," she says.

"Well I'll be dammed," I say.

"I'm sorry jasey," my grandma says.

"Its fine," I say shrugging.

"Its not, we moved down here thinking you would get closer to your mother and she dose this shit,".

"Hey, it wasn't a waste. I finally have friends," I say.

"That's a plus side," my grandma says smiling at me.
