Broken - Jake Bugg

Maya's POV

Groaning, I sat up in bed, my head pounding from the remnants of last night's indulgence. The sound of the car engine outside only served to exacerbate my headache, and I cursed under my breath as I tried to gather my thoughts.

Dragging myself out of bed, I stumbled over to the window and peered outside, squinting against the bright sunlight. A car was pulling away from the curb, its engine growling as it disappeared down the street. Whoever it was, they were in a hurry.

With a sigh, I turned away from the window and glanced at the clock again. 10 a.m. Already late enough to make me regret the excesses of the previous evening. I rubbed my temples, trying to ease the throbbing pain in my head as I contemplated the day ahead.

Feeling a surge of adrenaline, I sat up straight, suddenly alert despite the lingering haze of alcohol in my system.

"What is it?" I asked, my voice tinged with apprehension. Krystal's demeanor had me on edge, and I couldn't shake the feeling that whatever she had to say would only add to the mounting tension surrounding us.

Krystal hesitated for a moment, her lips pressed together in a tight line. Then, with a visible effort, she spoke up.

"I've got something to tell you," she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. There was an unmistakable gravity to her words, and I felt a knot form in the pit of my stomach.

"What is it?" I repeated, my heart pounding in my chest. The air in the room seemed to grow heavier with each passing second, and I held my breath, waiting for her response.

Krystal took a deep breath, her expression strained as she searched for the right words. Finally, she spoke, her voice barely audible.

"Hunter and I... we..." She trailed off, unable to finish her sentence. But the implication hung heavy in the air, and my mind raced to fill in the blanks.

Despite the initial shock and nervousness, I found myself letting out a laugh at Krystal's confession. The absurdity of the situation, combined with the relief that it wasn't something more sinister, was almost overwhelming.

But beneath the laughter lurked a twinge of discomfort as memories of my own encounters with Hunter flooded back. The thought of confessing them to Krystal filled me with unease; it was a part of my past that I wasn't ready to share, especially given the current circumstances.

"You sneaky bitch!" I teased, trying to lighten the mood as I grinned at her. Despite the levity in my tone, a part of me couldn't shake the unease that lingered beneath the surface.

"I can't help it! I was drunk and horny as fuck! Plus, you were sleeping like a baby!" Krystal retorted, her own tension palpable as she spoke. It was clear that she was still processing the aftermath of her own impulsive actions, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for her predicament.

As we exchanged banter, a fragile truce seemed to settle between us, momentarily easing the tension that had gripped the room. But beneath the facade of lightheartedness, I couldn't shake the sense that there were deeper, more troubling secrets lurking just beneath the surface. And try as I might, I couldn't ignore the nagging feeling that our shared past with Hunter was just the tip of the iceberg.

"Where is he?" I ask, looking around for any signs of him.

"Uhm he said he's just gonna get some breakfast and groceries too" She shrugged.

"Ugh I'm hungry Krystal" I mumbled.

"You know what, let's just get out of here and get some nice breakfast near downtown" She suggested and she quickly nodded.
