Roses

I smiled as I saw Y/n laughing. She looked so happy, happier with him. I know I could be enough for her, but I can't even get myself to tell her the way I feel.

She seems to love him so much, she seems at her best when she's with him and I don't want to take that away.

I cut the engine as I looked at her front door from her driveway. I placed the keys in my pocket and walked to her porch.

Taking a deep breath I knocked on her door. "I'll be there in a minute." I heard her voice ring.

The door opened, "Oh, hey Shawn." She smiled. "Did I know you were stopping by?" I gave her a small smile, "No, I just needed to talk to you about something."

She nodded, "Okay let me go get my jacket, real quick." I sat on her porch swing while I waited. I looked at the rose bushes that were planted in her front yard. I smiled as they added a nice touch of her personality to the lawn.

I felt her presence beside me, "What was it you wanted to talk about Shawn?"

"Look, I'm not trying to ruin what you have with him, but I have to let you know. I'm crazy about you. I see you with him and it drives me wild knowing that there isn't even a possibility he can feel the same way I do about you."

"Shawn..."

"I know it's out of the blue, but when I look at you I can't help but think you feel the same way too."

Silence took over. I looked at her, waiting for a response. "Y/n?" She looked up, a mix of emotion in her eyes.

"Do you really think this is fair? You think it's fair for you to spring this on me? Shawn everything was going fine with him. I had finally pushed down my feelings for you, and now you bring this up? Now I have to deal with these unresolved feeling again." She laughed, "No. I'm not having it."

I shook my head, "I know you say everything was going fine with him, but were you happy? I meant truly happy."

She closed her eyes, breathing in deeply, "Yes Shawn I was happy. I am happy."

My eyes met here, "You say that, but the look on your face says something else. I see it Y/n. I know you want me just as bad as I want you."

Deafening silence.

"All I'm asking you to do is really think about if you're truly happy with him? If he will make you feel a way nobody else can. When you get an answer let me know." I told her gently.

I placed a kiss on the top of her head and headed toward my Jeep. I leaned my head against the steering wheel hoping I had done the right thing.
