Logophobia - Fear of Words

*Flo Cassidy*

'I don't know why, but I agreed to help my friend Norah on her first date, only it's with her best friend... Which I think is rather odd.

We agreed for her to go on the date on Saturday, so we came to her house to help out. She didn't really expect us, at all. Kim told me Norah had invited us. Oh well, Norah let us in and sent us to her room.

Her bedroom must be the most tidy room I had ever been. It had a double bed in the corner, with plain red covers. The walls were a gentle cream colour and covered with papers which had autographs from authors on them. There were also photos of us and her family dotted over the wall. On the left, with a brilliant view of the tidy street, a desk was placed in front of the window. What definately stood out in the room were the two large bookshelves on the right. According to Norah, she had read every book on them, she just chose to reread them every once in a while.

"Norah, you should be getting ready!" Kim said when she entered her bedroom.

  "For what?" Norah responded dozily.

  "Remember? You and Owen?"

"Oh... that..." Norah glanced out the window, getting lost in her own world.

"What are you going to wear?" Kim asked.

"This!" Norah spread out her hands and held her chin up to show off her outfit. She had grey leggings on which were hiding underneath a denim flowing skirt. On her top, she had a dark turquoise top with a knitted tank top over it. It was Norah's style, but not a date style.

Kim looked her up and down, then walked around, continuing to examine her clothing. "Hmm..." she said in thought. "It's not exactly what is suited for a date..."

Norah let her arms hang in response from Kim's comment. "I don't really care how I look to be honest, and I don't think Owen would care much either."

"But Sean will, he is one of those kind of guys," Kim explained.

"Since when did boys care about clothing?" I asked suddenly. "I mean... boys are horrible, especially at our age. If you want to impress them, you strip naked."

Norah gave Kim a glare, which was her way of saying 'She has a point'. Kim gave a look at me, then a look at Norah, finally ending her glancing with a sigh.

"Fine, you go in that. But you have to show some confidence to make up for it!" Kim made it clear she wanted progress. That was the thing about Kim, she doesn't give up, which was not always a good thing.

Norah smiled because she had one the battle. I was quite relieved she had one, Kim is forcing her into relationships when Norah probably is not keen on one in the first place. Suddenly, my phone bleeped.

I pulled it out to find it was Niall. He was a little blonde boy with a sweet smile, but I found him rather annoying. He had texted me quite a lot and wouldn't leave me alone. Sometimes I responded to his text messages, but I was not in the mood to talk, so I decided to ignore the message and leave him. He probably had better things to do anyway.

  "To Ash,

Oh so you want to know what I got up to today? Well, I helped my good friend Norah with her first date today. She fancies a boy who has had a bit more experience to her, so she has met up with our friend Owen for practice.

I was just giving her tips on what to do during the date before she left. This included:

  1. Laugh at his jokes, even if they are bad
