"Before we get seated at our table, I want you to put this on." In front of me Niall was holding a black blindfold. The smile on his face reached from ear to ear and I immediately gave into his request, fully trusting him.
"I've learned to instead of question you, just go along with whatever you have planned." I replied, making reference to his love of surprises even if I wasn't the most keen on them.
The blindfold was tied ever so gently around my eyes and I could feel the wind from the door opening in front of me. I internally prayed that whatever I was walking into, Niall wouldn't literally let me walk into anything. I grabbed onto his arm for direction and we walked a few short steps further. Before taking off the blindfold, I took the time to try and guess what my surroundings could look like. I knew we were inside but I could still smell the sweet aroma from the fields and a smell of fresh rain from a recent rainfall. I can definitely hear the outside noises in the background but at same time, I could hear people working in a kitchen in the distance
"Am I allowed to look now?" I smiled, talking out loud. Without a response, I could feel Niall's fingers untying the blindfold before it slipped off my face and it took a split second for my eyes to adjust to the change in brightness.
Before me sat a single round, candle lit table which had two chairs on either side of it. The secluded table was perched on a gorgeous balcony that overlook the beautiful scenery of the same vineyard we walked through only moments ago. The sun was about to set behind the hills in the distance but there was still enough light for us to see each other.
"Niall, this is absolutely breathtaking." I exclaimed in awe. I rested my hand on his arm but couldn't take my eyes off of the scene in front of me.
"I'm glad you like it, baby." Niall commented.
We carefully walked to our seats where Niall stood behind me and tucked me into my chair before sitting in his own.
"It's not our anniversary, is it?" I half joked, pulling a napkin onto my lap.
"Does a man need an excuse to spoil his girl?" He pretended to be a bit insulted but I could tell by the slight upturn of his lips that I hadn't actually forgotten something important.
"But I hope you don't mind," He continued. "I just had them make the chefs choice for us. And don't worry, love, I told them to hold the onions for you." He automatically knew where my mind went to when he said they were choosing our food tonight and my heart warmed in appreciation for his consideration.
"Thank you," I told him sincerely. "You really have everything all planned out tonight, don't you?"
"Get ready to be wined and dined with an extra side of romance." He teased and I shook my head at him, completely in love with the man sat before me and his ridiculously cheesy lines that I secretly adored.
"Samantha, I wanted to talk to you about something.." He seemed hesitant to tell me whatever was on his mind. Niall fiddled with the cutlery and completely avoided eye contact. The sound of my full name had me slightly on edge and I leaned forward, taking his hand.
"What is it, Niall?" I asked softly, trying to encourage him to tell me what was making him so nervous to do so.
"I just wanted to confirm that you still want to build a house on your parents property?" He asked. This wasn't something I had to think long and hard about and I replied with my answer promptly.
"I think in order to get the house we truly want to live in, we'll have to build it. And it would mean a lot to me to live there. Maybe raise some kids there one day." I trailed off. I hoped he wouldn't freak out at the mention of having kids one day. But, to my relief, his eyes lit up at my words and he finally made eye contact with me.
