Rob's POV

"Where the hell is it?!" I angrily looked around for a stupid paper I needed. "PRESTON, WHAT DID WE DO WITH THE PAPER?" I shouted. Preston emerged from the bathroom, his hair was wet and I assume he just got out of the shower.

"What paper Robby?" He asked. I was pissed about the stupid paper and he was as calm as ever.

"I DON'T KNOW BUT ITS SOME STUPID FUCKING PAPER THAT WE NEED AND I CANNOT FIND IT SAVE MY LIFE!" I yelled.

The stress was getting to me. I felt the tears, ready to run down my face. I felt my entire body just give up under the pressure I put on it. Soon I crashed into the bed, crying as though it will make the stress go away.

"Robby come here. We'll be fine." Preston came over and held me. I still cried, absolutely hating all the stress and pressure and defeat I felt. "We can't do this, Preston. We're gonna be failures and they're gonna take her away." I cried even harder.

How did we even believe that we could do this? There's no way.

Preston just hugged me as I cried into his shirt. He told me that we would be great parents. "Come one she'll be fine. She's better off with us than Lachlan or Vik or Mitch or Jerome."

Preston cooed in my ear. "I mean come on, Rob. Look here listen. If we left her Jerome, she'd probably be dead or screaming about the Hunger Games." I laughed. That sounded like Jerome.

"If we left her with Mitch, she would probably be okay but I could not deal with her eating like he does. It's not bad, it's just way too heathy." Preston laughed slightly and continued.

"If we left her with Vik, she would talk about science and math theories and topics that we didn't know in college, let alone at age 3. And please don't make me get started on trusting Lachlan with children." I laughed and wiped my remaining tears away.

Preston gave me a smile and laughed. "Now come on let's go get this cutie."

-time skip-

"Hello? We're here to pick up Emma." I asked the lady behind the desk. "Ahhh yes. Of course, one second I'll go get her." She gave us a smile and went into a doorway.

A few minutes later, Ella and the lady walked out of the doorway. "Daddy?" She asked looking at Preston. Then she looked at me. "Dad?" She asked again.

We both smiled. "Sure kiddo. Come one Emma lets go home." Preston gave her a reassuring smile and she grabbed my hand. "Home! Home! Home!"

I mouthed a small thank you to the lady as we left the adoption center.

-12 years later-

"Hey Dad? I'm going to Claire's!" Emma walked behind the couch I was sitting on to leave the house. "That's cool. What are you guys gonna do?" I asked her, pausing my TV show. "We have a project for school from our English teacher." She rolled her eyes at the mention of her teacher.

"Wait is that the teacher that made you read that book you hated over a 6-week period?" Preston emerged from the kitchen. "Yes. Don't remind me." Emma groaned. "Alright get out of here. And good thing you're working with Claire!" I called after her once she left the house.

Preston walked over to me. "You know Rob? It's been a while since we've been alone. Just us, we could well..." Preston trailed off. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I asked him, with a large smirk on my face.

"Yes. Come on Rob, she'll be gone for hours." Preston begged. "Okay okay. You know what to do?" He smiled back at me when he answered, "How could I ever forget?"
[haha not what you think at all. keep reading]

Preston and I ended up watching both Magic Mike movies while cuddling and eating popcorn. We finished the movies and fell asleep way before Emma got home. When Emma did get home, she sat on the couch with us, and eventually fell asleep too.

It's moments like these when I realize that so many years ago, I was wrong to believe we couldn't do this. Because I think we already did.
