My chance of survival was in God's hands. I watched the boat sail away. I could not swim to catch up to it. I was in open water, this was far too dangerous. I float through the waves, trying desperately to stay above them. A large splashing wave almost pushes me under. I have been wading in the water for ten minutes by the time I float past a piece of drifting wood.
I climb on top of it but my weight is a little too heavy for it to lay completely on top. I hang my arms over the piece of driftwood. I kick my feet trying to direct myself somewhere but I know the harsh reality is that I'm stranded in the middle of the ocean and soon enough it would be nightfall.
The darkest things in these waters would come to feast. I was growing more and more exhausted. I just laid my head gently down on the board, my eyes were too heavy to hold open.
