Chapter Four

I held tightly onto the horse, and we continued to drift through the rocky water. I couldn't see because water kept splashing up into my eyes and all around me. The horse's body would dip down and then fly back up and that's when I lost hold of the reins. I watched the horse slip underwater and then pop back up again.

I could see the waves rapidly splashing around the mare, making it impossible for the animal to swim towards the edge of the roaring stream. I was pulled under the water, my body was twisting and turning under the waves as I hit various detritus in the water. I swam my hardest towards the surface and when I finally reached it I could hear roaring water.

I had only heard this sound once before in my lifetime and it was when Frances and I were at the waterfall. It became apparent to me.
