You knocked on your classroom door, opening it and closing it quietly.

"Your late." You heard and you turned around to see a woman with her hair in a high bun and glasses that were on the bridge of her nose as she looked at you expectantly.

Mr Horan, your usual teacher, was at the back of the room.

"Is your name Y/N?" The woman asked, a clipboard with a register of names in her hand and you looked back at her.

"Yes," you told her, confused as to what was going on.

"Why are you late?" She asked, snappily and you looked at her slightly irritated as you didn't know who she was.

"That's alright miss, I know why she's late, she informed me before class." Mr Horan spoke up.

"Oh, alright, well take a seat." She said, waving her hand towards your seat.

You nodded, heading towards your seat and sitting down as Niall winked at you.

You didn't inform him you were going to be late before class, so you wondered why he had done that for you. Although he was a nice teacher.

"She's new and she's going to be in class with you today," Mr Horan whispered to you when he walked past you, answering your silent question as to who she was and what she was doing here.

Ah, so that's why she's here. You thought.

Soon enough, the bell rang for break and you got up before being ordered to stay behind.

"Y/N, stay behind please, I'd like to talk to you about the importance of being on time." She said as your dislike towards her grew each time she spoke to you.

"It's okay miss, I can deal with this," Mr Horan said with a smile as he came to stand at the front desk.

"But Mr Horan, I don't think some of your students realise how important being on time is." She continued.

"I will speak with Y/N, please, go for break miss, I will take over from here." He smiled and she huffed before reluctantly leaving.

"I'm sorry about that Y/N, she's supposed to be getting a class of her own after the summer holidays and she's only with us for the day." He reassured you and you laughed.

"Mr Horan, I'm sorry for being late, I didn't intend to be." You apologised.

"Oh, that's alright, you were only a few minutes late and you know I don't mind too much." He laughed, a laugh that sounded beautiful to you.

What? Why am I thinking this? You thought.

Sure, he was good looking and you did have a crush on him, but he was your teacher. He may only have been a few years older than you, but he was your teacher.

"Y/N, can I ask you something?" He asked seriously and you nodded.

He hesitated and shook his head, a nervous laugh escaping his lips.

"No, actually it doesn't matter, you can go now." " He said.

"No, what did you want to say?" You asked, intrigued.

"It's stupid really, I'm your teacher and your my student, but...I don't know, I see you differently to everyone else." He explained.

"In what way?" You questioned, confused.

"I-I kind of, um...well, I like you." He stuttered.

"You like me? Really?" You asked, shocked.

He shifted his gaze to look at you, his cheeks red as he blushed, making him look adorable.

"Yes, I do. It's not very professional of me, but I haven't liked anyone else before, especially not with a student." He sighed.

"It's taken me a few months to say anything because I don't think a relationship could work and is shouldn't even be thinking that way. I'm sorry." He added.

"You don't have to apologise, I like you too. I never would've thought my teacher could like me back and I certainly wouldn't have expected you to be thinking about a relationship." You laughed.

"So...would you like to give a relationship a go? You only have another year before you leave so if you wanted to keep it private it wouldn't be too long." He said, hopeful.

"I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself, but I would like to get to know you more personally, if you'd like." He added.

"I'd love to," you smiled.

"But wait, what do I call you out of class?" You asked.

He smiled, a blush on his cheeks as he shuffled onto each foot, nervously. Something you hadn't seen him do before, seeing as he was usually so confident.

"You can call me Niall." he smiled.

"Niall... I like it." You smiled, not being able to stop as you repeated his name in your head.

"How about I pick you up tomorrow at 5? We could go for dinner?" He asked and with it being the weekend you nodded.

"Sounds great, Niall." You said.

Suddenly, the bell rang, signalling that it was the end of break and you began to head to your seat.

"That's Mr Horan to you, until class is over." He chuckled before letting the rest of the class in.

*
The bell rang for lunch and you got up, ready to leave as the rest of the class had done already, when you were stopped by Niall.

"Hey Y/N?" He called before you opened the door to leave.

"Yeah?" You smiled, turning around to look at him.

"Why don't you come and have lunch with me on Monday? I'd ask you today but I have a meeting." He said.

"A meeting? At lunch?" You asked, raising your eyebrows.

"Yeah, I know, but hopefully it shouldn't last too long." He said, getting up from his desk.

"Sure, but you know you could've asked me tomorrow when we go out for dinner." You laughed and he blushed yet again.

"Shut up." he joked, a grin on his face.

You laughed before you left the room for lunch, with Niall following you out before he went in the opposite direction. Today had been eventful, but you were so thankful it happened.
