April, 2020

Mallory hummed softly as sat at her piano. She let the music guide her thoughts, her nimble fingers dancing across the ivory keys. The room was bathed in a warm, golden glow as the evening sun streamed through the window, casting long shadows on the rich wooden floors. She was lost in the depths of her music, pouring her heart and soul into the melody that resonated from her fingertips.

The chord progression she played was a complex one, requiring great dexterity and precision. Each note blended seamlessly into the next, creating a tapestry of harmonies that seemed to fill the room. Mallory's voice soared through the air, intertwining with the piano's melody, as she sang the lyrics she had carefully crafted.

Unbeknownst to Mallory, her wife had just returned from being sat at the poolside. She stood in the doorway, her eyes widening with surprise and admiration as she took in the scene before her. Mallory was talented, but what amazed Taylor in that moment was the fact that Mallory had written two whole verses for a song, and she hadn't even mentioned it to her.

The couple had always shared a deep love for music. It was their way of communicating, of expressing their emotions and connecting with each other on a profound level. They often spent evenings together, Taylor strumming her guitar while Mallory composed melodies on the piano. Their shared passion for music had brought them closer together, and they had been inseparable ever since.

As the final notes of the chord progression faded into silence, Mallory turned her head, her eyes meeting Taylor's startled gaze. A shy smile graced her lips as she realized she had an audience. "Hi! How long have you been there?" Mallory exclaimed, a mixture of surprise and delight evident in her voice.

Taylor slowly walked toward Mallory, her heart still fluttering with the beauty of what she had just witnessed. "Mallory," she said, her voice filled with wonder, "those verses you sang... they were incredible! How long have you been working on this song?"

Mallory's cheeks flushed with a mix of pride and bashfulness. She had spent countless hours pouring her soul into those verses, carefully crafting each line to reflect her deepest emotions. "I... I didn't think you'd ever hear that," Mallory admitted, her voice tinged with a hint of guilt. "Honestly? I've been working on it since 2017, but I haven't gotten anywhere past the first two verses. I don't even have a chorus to separate them. Also, technically August wrote the second verse."

Taylor's eyes softened, and she took Mallory's hands in her own. "Well, then we're just gonna have to work on it together," She said, asking Mallory to make space for her as she sat down. "Play. Please."

Mallory did as asked with a smile. They spent countless hours collaborating, exchanging melodies, lyrics, and ideas. Mallory's newfound confidence blossomed, and Taylor's admiration for her talent only grew stronger.

Their love for music had always been a binding force, intertwining their lives in a symphony of harmony and creativity. But now that they had written a song together, it was an imminent one. Together, they created melodies that spoke of love, resilience, and the beauty of shared dreams. Their music echoed through their home, filling every corner with a warmth that surpassed words.

As Mallory played the final chords of her song, Taylor wrapped her arms around her, holding her close. They sat there, swaying gently to the fading echoes of the melody, knowing that their love, their music, and their unwavering support for one another would forever be the soundtrack of their lives.

"So, exile, huh?" Taylor asked with an excited grin.

"Huh," Mallory grinned. "I can't believe you just added that chorus on like it was nothing? You're literally amazing."
