SEASON ONE - EPISODE SIX
"FRUIT OF THE POISONED TREE"

[voiceover] "My brothers and I are the first vampires in history, the Originals. Three hundred years ago, we called New Orleans home. Now, we've returned, drawn by a witch who seeks to use my brother Klaus' unborn children as leverage in a brewing war. But his quest for power has turned brother against brother, leaving our family more divided than ever. Now that Elijah has returned, can our family unite to face this new threat?" Rebekah says.

...Mikaelson's Plantation Mansion...

Klaus and Elijah sit opposite each other in the living room as each of them read their own book. Klaus is reading 'a poison tree' by William Blake, and Elijah is reading one of his mother's grimoires. A dead girl lays on the coffee table, her neck bleeding from puncture wounds in her neck, while they listen to classical music. After a moment, Rebekah enters the room.

"So, this is what you do the first time we're back together as a family? Vampire book club?" Rebekah asks annoyed.

"Reading edifies the mind, sister. Isn't that right, Elijah?" Klaus says, not taking his eyes off the book.

"Yes, that's quite right, Niklaus" Elijah agrees.

"And what's this business?" Rebekah asks "you do realize that we have a pregnant girl upstairs, right?"

She gestures to the dead girl on the table.

"This is a..." He gestures as though he's searching for a word "...peace offering" Elijah says.

"I presumed, after so much time desiccating in a coffin, that my big brother might be a bit peckish" Klaus says.

"And I explained to my little brother that forgiveness cannot be bought. I'd simply prefer to see a change in behavior that indicates contrition and personal growth" Elijah says.

Klaus rolls his eyes guiltily, and Elijah gestures to the girl on the table.

"Not this nonsense" he says.

"Well, I couldn't very well let her go to waste, could I?" Klaus says grinning.

"Well, I suppose I'll go fetch the rubbish bin, because she's staining a two hundred-year-old carpet" Rebekah says.

Elijah looks up from his book to see the girl bleeding out onto the table, where the blood drips onto the floor

"Ah, yes" Elijah agrees.

In voiceover, Klaus recites ' A Poison Tree' by William Blake.

[voiceover] "I was angry with my friend: I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow. And I watered it in fears, Night and morning with my tears; And I sunned it with smiles, And with soft deceitful wiles. And it grew both day and night" Klaus looks over at Elijah, and then to Rosalind as she walks in the room, her hand resting on her pregnant belly.

She stops seeing both brothers staring at her, then she looks at the dead girl in the carpet.

"Do I wanna know?" she asks with an eyebrow raised, then she frowned "I mean, never mind. I can't even look. Excuse me" she goes to the kitchen.
