I put it on, it was quite big and I had to carry something, like the battery, on my leg. But it was worth it. And for the first time in years, I heard my first step. A sigh came out of my mouth, which soon turned into a sob. And I could hear it. I could hear myself and everything that was around me. I went downstairs, where Mia and Dan were sitting in front of the table and drawing. I slowly walked to them. "Dan... Mia." I said, in tears. They turned around. "Mum?" they both asked. I burst into tears and hugged them. "I can hear you... I can hear you both." they pulled back. "Mum! It's amazing!" they looked so happy. They examined the hearing aid, trying to understand how it worked. To be honest, I had no idea either.

Of course, I often had to take it of but I didn't mind at all. Sometimes, silence was all that I needed to concentrate on my writing. And I could finally hear the birds singing in the morning.

It made me enjoy life a little more. And for once, I was more than grateful to my parents. This was the best gift they had ever gave me.
