WoooAhah is that hit famous gas station employee, Demi Levado???

"Why should I trust you?"

"You shouldn't" he said darkly, the sudden change forcing Stephen's arms back up with a spell ready on his tongue, "not yet, at least. Never trust anyone you can't touch or smell. The fact that I'm here means more could come, and not all of us play the good guy"

"And my defense against you?"

"None".

Stephen blinked.

"Excuse me?".

David sighed loudly, again, pulling out a small bag of Doritos from his pants.

"I suppose since we've never gotten this far, I might as well" he seemed to cave into some internal debate, popping open the bag.

The smell of cheesy nacho hit Stephen harder than it should've.

"Much of humanity depicts us in different ways. As has practically every other culture in the universe, known and unknown. We're partially the building blocks of religion. Mostly because when we appear, people can't explain what they see, or how they're helped,". He looked Stephen over, as if deciding something, "I believe the easiest answer for you would be something formed from Christianity. What was it, an angel? Angel, demon, all just titles really. Paints us in a much brighter light than in truth" he shrugged, stuffing a chip in his mouth.

"You expect me to believe—"

"I expect you to believe whatever the hell you want. I don't care, so long as you let me do my thing, which I assume you will since you'll forget this anyways, I'm betting. I am not saying I am purely righteous and here to save you from your sins, yada yada, but I am no threat. That, I can promise".

"And your purpose?" Stephen's arms lowered again, an odd feeling surfacing from the man, as if an arm was outstretched to help wash away his worries.

"Think of me as a subtle magic pocket therapist" he bit into a mother dorito, tilting his head as if he found his own explanation ridiculous, "Im just helping someone who needs it. It's all that really keeps me sane. I enjoy it. The worse the situation, the more there is for me to do. Im giving you a taste of what I'm using on Peter, so don't be frightened by the sudden comfort" he waved his hand, Stephen finding himself unable to admit the presence he'd not even notice being outstretched from David.

"You promise on your intent?" Stephen decided, 100% not fully trusting the man, but deciding anything out to help Peter deserved a bit of credit. He'd keep an eye on David, of course, but something was telling him to at least listen.

"I can tell no lie. Im sure that's been mentioned somewhere in your books" David grinned cockily.

"Perhaps, but they also mentioned you with a thousand eyes and rings" Stephen circled the trap a bit, as if he'd find something new.

"Oh that? We move much faster than this universe when in our natural form. When we sit still, we often get perceived much like a dancer in long exposure. I encourage you to look that up, it will give you an idea. Trapping ourselves in a comfort form changes our perceivable speed. We appear natural among you. I assure you I can spot every detail just the same though. You are like a small kitten compared to me, declawed and docile,". David mimicked a cat clawing, a teasing grin on his face.

Stephen gritted his teeth, closing his eyes.

"Ah, I suppose our time is up then" David muttered regrettably.

"Is it?" Stephen felt more somber than he imagined himself being, as if he could sense the very notion from David's slumped shoulders.

"Afraid so. Know this doctor, I do admire you. Your kid too. Everything you stand and fall for. From what I've seen out of you lot, you are the part of the universe we shall save one day. Past the stones and the nine realms, to the death and dawn of ages. I'd even see to it that I will be the one to carry you to our kingdom myself. That is an honor you may never understand." David spoke as if he was reminiscing in a story Stephen was yet to learn.
