Tony's about to evict a kid

Peter had totally dominated the game of tag. He didn't even need to use his powers to hop around like he'd been doing parkour since he was seven to avoid capture(even though he mostly still did for the fun of it).

Tony and Stephen were watching the teenagers run up and down the plastic stairs, climbing on parts they shouldn't. A few of the others laid in the grass still, but they weren't in imminent danger as some of the kids were when they realized they could dive bomb from certain heights for a quick catch.

"Should we get Peter a new phone or should I just make him one?" Tony leaned over to Stephen, eyes not leaving the playground.

"Buy him one. You already made him the suit for his birthday and bought triple the decorations in the price that his whole room cost" Stephen said deadpanned, portaling a reckless student right next to the tagger he'd tried to dangerously escape.

"Yeah but.."

"He's going to flip out either way. You know that. Plus, he's been without one for long enough. You don't have to worry about that right now"

"He's been back for two weeks already, I feel like I should make it special! I should've gotten him one as soon as he got back, but he wanted a 'slow welcome.'" Tony used air quotes, "His modesty is going to kill me someday"

"Your overwhelming pizazz is gonna kill him, Tony"

"Yeah yeah. Whatever". Tony crossed his arms, rolling his eyes.

"Cut him some slack. He's been through a lot"

"I know.." Tony's face went solum, "And I'm trying to, but my favorite thing to do when I'm sad is get a bunch of shiny things for myself and you guys! He just.. sits there and pretends nothing is wrong!"

"You do that too, you know" Stephen pointed out,  glancing at Tony "and Peter just has a different way of coping. That's all. Let him relax a bit before we dive in. Leave all the big stuff for Christmas. He'll be fine if we just take it slowly and support him".

"Easy for you to say." Tony grumbled.

"It is, actually. I've dealt with enough trauma patients to see the patterns. Peter's case might be more extreme than others, of course, but he's a tough one to crack. Just look at him" Stephen pointed to the young hero, who was balancing a run on the monkey bars to avoid capture with a wide grin, "look at all of them".

Every kid on that playground had gone through something. Even the more reserved ones were chatting quietly amongst themselves. The area's background noise was filled with screams of joy and cackling.

"Peter is going to get better" Stephen promised, "just let him settle down for now".

Tony sighed, eyes cast downward.

"I'm still buying him that phone today".

"Fair enough" Stephen caved, exasperated.

The rest of the day went pretty smoothly. Tony had gone out and bribed a food truck over to feed his hungry kiddos, paying for everyone's meal and then some. He'd stopped by the store for some water and sugary drinks, coming back in slight regret of leaving a weak Stephen alone with  some very eager kids.

He'd thrown a couple of the beggars into portal loops, those who weren't inside one taking videos and laughing. Stephen obviously made sure everything was safe, but Tony decided that maybe being the stressed out safety-wise responsible adult wasn't a waste after all.

After lunch, the energy had died down to more of a lazy day. Everyone was sprawled around at various heights, but the most common was the smooth, grassy ground level.
