By the time Peter heard the footsteps, he was too late.
By now it was 6th period. He'd been chatting with Stiles, going on about lycanthropy or something, before he noticed them nearing down the hall.
If he could've, he would've bolted to the bathroom as soon as he could.
Problem?
This hallway was a one-way dead end.
Main issue?
The footsteps had already reached close enough that he'd be spotted the second he got out of that classroom. He'd also be alone. So that was a no-go.
Granted, just an hour before, he might've made it out unscathed, able to pass by before mr Westcott managed to make the Turn of No Returns. Unfortunately, as the caffeine wore off, so did his unconscious attention span. His sound seeking skills didn't seem so effective when he wasn't constantly listening to what he was after.
Peter looked around the classroom, attempting to see any unsuspicious corners he might be able to cram himself into.
You'd think in an American school, they'd have more hiding places 😕
He looked to mr Burley, who was keeping an eye on the achieve students. Peter had never been more thankful that he'd switched his class period more than now. Part of him wondered if the reason Skip came so late was because he'd tried Peter's old class.
The biggest relief was that mr Burley had promised not to give out students at will. As far as Peter was concerned, this class was a safe zone.
Peter had to hope for dear life that that was the case, at least.
He didn't have time to dwell on it, the door swung open.
Mr Burley was the first to look up, opposed to Peter's dead stare that was already trained at the door. His face was white.
"Can I help you again.. mr..". Mr Burley made it clear that he didn't bother to memorize the new teacher's name.
Peter had a feeling he just didn't like the guy though, as he'd gotten it down perfectly that morning.
"Westcott" he said smoothly, hands behind his back like some sort of weird British butler, "I'd assume you'd've gotten my email?"
"I did. I already said no"
"Ah, it seems I was the one to miss it then. Might I ask why?" His voice sounded so much sweeter than it should've.
Like a bird singing in the morning while waiting for the worms to come up.
Peter had an uneasy feeling about what happened to that last teacher now. As much as he loved mr Burley's defiance on the subject, it could be putting him in jeopardy if that was the case.
That led to another thing for Peter to think about.
He might be keeping secrets for a murderer right now.
"I've already told you, I'm keeping my kids in my classrooms. They can come to you after school if they want, but he's got work he needs done. Thank you for stopping by".
Mr Burley stood up, almost in an intimidation attempt. The class had begun to pick up on the tension. He didn't stand as tall as Skip did, but his build and posture made up for it quite well. Skip glanced at the students, letting his eyes linger on Peter before giving Mr Bruley the death stare.
This seemed to fuel him though.
"Thanks for stopping by" he said a little bit harsher, gesturing to the door.
