He'd missed this more than he cared to admit. Peter waved to passerby's, doing some warm up tricks as his adrenaline went up.
If only they'd known how horrible he really was. Especially after today.
No.
After the hell he'd gone through, Peter felt that he deserved to enjoy this. He really did.
So he kept going.
And going.
And going.
After way too long of frolicking on the strings, to the point of dusk being on the horizon, he heard a daunting whirring behind him as he rolled himself to a stop on top of a workshop building.
"Peter Benjamin Parker!" The booming voice echoed off the concrete oasis surrounding Peter, seemingly boosted by speakers, or something along that line.
He froze, still not feeling prepared to face anyone. How the hell did this guy get ahold of his middle name?
Peter didn't cower away like he normally might've under Tony's stern yelling. Just that morning, if Tony had yelled at him like that, he might've started bawling on the spot or something. Right now, he was too drained to react.
Instead, he just stilled. Facing opposite to his hero, Peter just looked into the distance as Tony lowered himself to the ground. The metallic clanks and following footsteps made Peter want to make a run for it, but he knew he probably couldn't make it far.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" The man shouted as he approached, stress leaking from his voice.
Peter felt bad, but he didn't budge.
"I sat in that car for an hour, kid. I went inside, they said you hadn't been in class since second period. For fucks sake, I didn't know what to think! Tell me, what was so important that you had to skip school??" He didn't get any quieter as he approached, doing absolutely nothing for Peter's nerves.
Still, he didn't say a word. 'Skip school', as common as a phrase as it was, really irked him right now. Maybe that's when he starting feeling more stubborn.
"Mask. Off" Tony's arm reached for Peter's shoulder, his voice stern and low.
It sounded like he was trying to stay calm, but failing through the importance of it. Peter still didn't comply.
Peter allowed the man to spin him towards him. Now, face to face, he found himself feeling even worse. If his mask was off, he was certain the vulnerability levels he felt would skyrocket.
"What's going on, Peter?" He lowered his voice a bit when he realized Peter hadn't just been ignoring him.
Clenching and unclenching his fists, Peter looked to the ground.
He couldn't say anything. He'd lost that chance already.
"I needed some air" he muttered.
"You could've called me" Tony ran his hand through his hair, blowing out air, "or at least, not go incognito after asking if we could talk. You sounded pretty serious. I just.. I didn't know what to.." Tony wiped his hands down his face, exhaling. "I'm just glad you're okay".
