Your POV:
The sound of the monitor's chime went of at the presumed time that it always went off in the morning. I slowly opened my eyes, still being very drowsy and half asleep. The monitor was always some sort of alarm clock for me, and that much was obvious.
I glanced towards the monitor with a tired expression on my face. Once the monitor powered on, an image of Monokuma holding a champagne glass, sitting in a large leather chair was present. He was surrounded by the same foods as he was during the night time announcement. Nothing had changed in that regard.
"Ahem!" Monokuma exclaimed, "this is an announcement from the Ultimate Academy! Rise and shine, kiddos! It's another gorgeous day for a killing game! So get out there, embrace your homicidal urges, and have a fabulous day!"
The monitor turned off after the announcement. I let out a small yawn before getting ready for the day as I usually did. I was pretty sure that everyone would be in the dining hall right now. I needed to hurry and do my morning routine, so I could head to the dining hall.
I took a shower, put on a new change of clothes, brushed my hair, and I was ready. I patiently waited at the door because I knew Rantaro usually came by my dorm room every day, so we could walk to the dining hall together. It's been happening so much that it's become a part of my routine.
It seemed that I was waiting for a few minutes. I didn't hear the sound of my doorbell ringing. Part of me was slightly puzzled because of this. Usually one of the things I looked forward to in this hellhole of a school was being with Rantaro.
'Rantaro should be here by now...right?' I thought to myself, 'maybe he just wanted to go straight to the dining hall...maybe I should wait a few more minutes just in case...'
I set my mind to waiting a few more minutes to see if I could walk with Rantaro to the dining hall. I could always stop by his room, but if he wasn't here by now, then chances were... he was already at the dining hall.
I realized after I waited a few more minutes that Rantaro wasn't going to stop by my dorm this morning. I couldn't keep waiting, so I decided to press on to the dining hall without him this morning. I exited my dorm room, and then I walked to the exit of the dormitory building and exited the building.
I could feel the warmer morning air on my face as soon as I exited the dormitory building. I decided to take my usual route to the dining hall. I took the same path to the entrance hall, but then turned left and followed the trail. It lead to the outside entrance to the dining hall. It took less time than walking through the school to arrive.
It didn't take me too long to make it to the outside dining area. I opened the door to enter the dining hall. As soon as I did, I saw that everyone was already there. Everyone aside from Kokichi and Kiyo was here.
In all honesty, I was slightly worried about Kokichi's disappearance. I didn't know where he was or what he was plotting. I couldn't help but look to the side.
"What the hell, (y/n)!?" Miu shouted, "why are ya so fuckin' late!?"
"I think she was waiting for Rantaro to come to her door!" Tsumugi exclaimed with a happy expression, "Rantaro does care a lot about her, so it would make sense that she was just plain waiting for him to stop by."
I could feel myself grow slightly embarrassed in response to Tsumugi's words. She was right about that. She hit that right on the bullseye. Tsumugi seemed to look up slightly as if she was thinking about something.
"Rantaro seems more distant..." Tsumugi muttered, "I wonder why..."
When Tsumugi said that, I turned my gaze towards Rantaro. He seemed to be looking in my general direction, but as soon as my eyes met his... he turned away from me, staying silent.
'Why did Rantaro turn away from me...?' I thought, 'did something happen?'
"We all know Rantaro is an enigma," Maki stated, "but I'm pretty sure this isn't the thing we're worried about."
I felt like I knew what Maki was talking about. I needed to figure out what was going on with Rantaro later. I was concerned about it, but I knew Kokichi being missing was something that needed to be talked about. I knew this from yesterday, but Kaito steered the conversation from this issue.
I haven't seen any sign of Kokichi since the whole situation happened with Miu. I was still trying to figure that out. In all honesty, Kokichi was probably plotting something, but some of our fellow peers didn't really think much of it.
"I have a nagging suspicion that (y/n) has been worried about Kokichi since yesterday," Kirumi explained, "in all honesty, I think the rest of us are worried as well."
"Kirumi is right," Maki spoke, "we all are worried too..."
"I searched everywhere for him, but I couldn't find him at all," Keebo explained in response.
"Maybe we should try and have (y/n) look for him," Maki replied, "I mean she did play hide and seek with him. Kaito even tried getting her help when he was trying to find him."
I knew Maki had a point about that, but that was only a game. Chances were...Kokichi didn't want to be found. There was a finite difference between playing and actually being serious.
"Maki, I get that I played that game with him, but that was only a game," I explained in response, "Kokichi was messing around. This time, I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to be found. Plus it took me a good two hours to find him the first time..."
"I think (y/n) has a point," Kaede spoke, "if Keebo has already searched for Kokichi, then I don't think we need to have someone else do it. This school is huge with no shortage of hiding spaces. It could take forever for someone to search the entire school."
Kaede was defiantly right. Since the time that I played hide and seek with Kokichi, more areas of the school have been unlocked, making the search area way bigger. There was also outside areas that we needed to search, and other buildings around as well. Tenko's Research Lab, Miu's Research Lab, Keebo's Research Lab, and even the Exisal Bunker.
There were so many areas to search that Kokichi could be anywhere. The areas wouldn't even be limited to only the school. Even with a group effort, chances were... we wouldn't be able to find where Kokichi was.
"Sure enough, he's a master of hide and seek," Himiko muttered.
"Himiko is right!" Tenko exclaimed, "it will be impossible to find that degenerate male! There are so many places to hide!"
"He couldn't have...escaped by himself, right?" Tsumugi asked.
"No," Keebo replied, "as long as Monokuma is here, I do not think that is possible—"
"Like I said, just forget about him," Kaito said, interrupting Keebo, "anyway... Listen up everyone. I gotta tell you guys something."
After we all were having a conversation about being concerned about Kokichi, Kaito changed the conversation once more. He was doing the same thing that he did yesterday. From what happened while hanging out with Maki in her lab, I knew Kaito was planning something. I just didn't know what he was trying to plan.
Kaito obviously had an idea. Even if I asked about it, he would probably turn away from me. The same thing could be said about Shuichi. Sadly, it now wasn't just Kaito I was concerned about. I was also concerned about Rantaro as well. I couldn't worry about all of that now, and I knew that. My best course of action would be to push it to the back of my brain, and see what Kaito has to say. I needed to listen to what Kaito had to say.
"What's your idea, Kaito?" I heard Shuichi ask.
As soon as Shuichi spoke, Kaito got very flustered, avoiding eye contact with Shuichi. Kaito started to stutter as if he wasn't expecting Shuichi to say anything to him about what he was planning. Kaito was averting his eyes from Shuichi as he looked around the room. It was quite obvious what was going on, and I'm pretty sure everyone would see that.
"Looks like Monokuma isn't here," Kaito muttered, "well, I wouldn't care even if he was."
Kaito then turned to all of us, his expression becoming serious. I don't think I ever saw that expression from him before. He looked like he was genuinely serious about what he was going to say. It wasn't like how he acted serious and then said something more stupid.
"Didn't I tell you guys yesterday?" Kaito asked, "I'm gonna get you guys outta here. But to do that, I need your guys' help. So please! Help me out here!"
I was confused about Kaito's words. He told us he was going to get us out of her, but he needed our help. The fact that I didn't know what he was asking us for help for. The only possibility was for his plan to work, he needed our help to pull it off.
"A-Are you trying to tell us that you need us to work with you in order for your plan to work?" I asked, "even if we don't know what you're planning?"
As soon as I asked that, Kaito averted his eyes from mine. His gaze hit the floor as he realized that he was going to have to answer my question. He was being so awkward around both Shuichi and myself.
"Y-Yeah..." Kaito finally responded, "in order for me to help you guys, I need you all to work with me."
"You do realize that you are imploring that you need our help, but you never explained what your plan was," Kirumi spoke, "in order for us to work with you, you have to tell us what you're planning to do. If we don't know, how will we know the objective?"
"I would think the objective would be obvious..." Kaito muttered, "even if it's not obvious, I'll say it! I want you all to fight Monokuma with me!"
"Fight...Monokuma?" Maki asked in response.
"Now's our best chance..." Kaito explained in response, "since the Monokubs are gone, the Exisals that we're protecting him can't move... Now's our chance to get together and kick Monokuma's ass!"
I knew Kaito was head strong. It made sense that since the Monokubs were gone, the Exisals couldn't function. Fighting Monokuma would seem to be a good idea, but that wasn't the case. I recalled being told about the rumored Monokuma making machine. Even if we destroyed Monokuma, the machine could always make a new one.
I knew Kaito was looking for weapons because they were needed to fight Monokuma. To me, it just wouldn't make sense when Monokuma could just be remade.
"Even if we decided to fight Monokuma, wouldn't you think that he would have more spares?" Rantaro asked, "you do recall the additional motive from when we first got here. There is some sort of Monokuma making machine, so even if we destroyed him, there could be more spares."
"You and I were thinking the same thing Rantaro," I replied, turning towards him, "it would be no use to fight Monokuma if the machine was destroyed."
When I replied to Rantaro his eyesight wasn't even focused on me. It was like he didn't think I was there. It was like my response to him flew in one ear and out the other.
"Anyway, we need to do something about the machine before we can even fight Monokuma," Rantaro explained, turning towards the others.
"It doesn't matter if the machine is destroyed or not!" Kaito exclaimed, "all we need to do is destroy the spares one by one till there aren't any left!"
"But we don't know what Monokuma is planning," Kaede mentioned, "you do remember Monokuma being destroyed in the beginning before coming back a day later."
"Kaede is right," Tsumugi replied, "even without the Exisals, this academy is still under his control."
"Nyahahaha~ Atua thinks the mastermind would have control over Monokuma!" Angie exclaimed, "wouldn't it make more sense to fight the mastermind?"
"Look, even if we decided to fight the mastermind, we still don't even know who it is," Ryoma explained in response, "also, it's been proven time and time again that the mastermind is one step ahead of us."
I knew very well Angie and Ryoma were right. If we wanted to get anywhere, we would have to beat the mastermind. The issue was what Ryoma explained. The mastermind seemed to have the advantage, and we still didn't know who it was. We had an idea on who it could be, but we didn't know if there was proof.
"I think Kokichi is the fuckin' mastermind!" Miu shouted, "I have fuckin' proof, and that was when we went into the Virtual World!"
"I told you guys to not worry about Kokichi," Kaito replied, "Kokichi is just trying to get inside of your head Miu. If you guys spend time worrying about a prankster, then are you all fine with the way things are now?"
When Kaito asked if we were fine with the way things were, I felt myself look down slightly. This killing game was hell but I was able to get something good from it. There weren't any deaths because of my ability. This was the best possible scenario in a situation like this. Thing is... I didn't want to stay here forever... I didn't want to live in fear of not being able to save anyone.
"I know some strange things have been happening causing people to come back from the dead," Kaito explained, "but even so...Do you guys really wanna continue this killing game? Even if no one's died yet, are you really okay with living the possible chance of someone dying for real!? If you wanna put an end to this killing game, then we gotta fight. If we don't stand up now, then what!?"
"Gonta knows he did bad thing..." Gonta muttered, "Gonta still wanna fight! Gonta want to protect friends!"
"Even if some of you are filthy degenerate males, I'll still fight for freedom!" Tenko exclaimed, "I want to protect the girls of this school, like my sweet precious Himiko."
I knew that Gonta and Tenko could fight. Tenko was still her usual self, talking about protecting Himiko. Gonta wanted to protect everyone. I think Kaito was starting to motivate everyone. Even if we had an awkward bump right now, I knew he was right.
"If somehow Gonta ended up dying..." Maki spoke, "I would fight on his behalf. The same goes for a lot of the people here."
"Gonta confused..." Gonta muttered, "why friend want to fight on Gonta's behalf?"
"Listen..." Maki muttered in response, "I know an assassin wouldn't say this, but I'm sick of this killing game. I know no one has actually died even though I don't know how. I don't want to risk losing my life, and I think you all should feel the same way."
"Maki..." I muttered.
Everyone seemed to stay silent for a moment. I knew Maki's words were true. I was sure everyone didn't want to live in fear of dying. I knew well that if someone was found dead, I would want to save them. I wanted to help in any way I could. Even if that meant doing something that was out of my comfort zone. If need be, I'd fight for everyone's freedom. I was technically fighting for my life as it was. I needed to get out of here before the mastermind can find out that I was behind everyone surviving.
"Let's do it," Keebo said, "I think we have a fighting chance with Gonta and Tenko."
"Huh?" Tsumugi asked, "Keebo, you two?"
"My inner voice that guides me when I feel lost spoke to me again..." Keebo explained, "it said, *Now is the time to stand and fight.* It may be a dangerous course of action, but it could prevent anyone from becoming a victim.... That's why I've decided that I'll fight Monokuma!"
After Keebo's words of inspiration, I felt myself feel motivated, and so did some of the others as well. It was obvious on what was going to happen. Everyone wanted to fight Monokuma, and I couldn't say that I didn't want to join. I wanted to prevent people from actually dying even if there was a chance that I would die in the process.
Kaito mentioned that we'd have to prepare ourselves mentally to fight Monokuma. According to him, we needed to prepare our minds while he prepared the area the fight was going to take place. A good part of me felt like he was going to leave all of us to clean up the mess once everything was done and over with.
We were told to meet in the gym, and that was the end of the discussion. We all decided to eat breakfast and go to our respective rooms. I knew very w ll I had to prepare my mind for the fight, but I was concerned about something else.
Rantaro was acting a bit strange today. He wasn't looking at me or talking to me as he usually did. I was worried that something happened with him. I could feel myself look down slightly. He was doing the same thing as Kaito. There was one thought in my mind.
'What if he doesn't love me anymore...?'
Hey all! I'm here with another update! I know not a lot has happened in this chapter, but I've been busy with packing to go back to school. I literally move back in to the dorms tomorrow.
Rantaro has started to act weird because of seeing his video, and next chapter is going to be pretty emotion filled with trigger warnings this time around.
The next time I update, I'll be back at campus, doing baking and pastry like a champ. I'm not going to go into light about what will happen next chapter. You guys will have to wait and see! Ciao for now!- yuki_no_fuyu
