"What are you going to do?" Darnell asked
"I really don't know" I responded, playing with my collard greens.
As everyone was sitting in silence, Tessa's phone vibrated, interrupting everyone's thoughts. "Excuse me" She said leaving the table
"Wait, what was she going to tell me, before I got that phone call?" I asked looking at Terry. Terry look at Grandma.
"You have to ask her" Grandma said.
"Well, I have school tomorrow, and I'm taking Trell to a babysitter" Mya said, picking up Trell
"No you're not" Grandma said
"Why?" Mya whined
"Why would you PAY for a babysitter, when you have a perfectly good FREE Grandma to watch him?" Grandma said
"True" Mya said
"Alright, we'll see you guys tomorrow" Darnell said standing up
"Darnell, remember what I told you" Grandma said, winking at him
"What did you tell him?" I asked
"Are you Darnell?" She asked me
"No ma'am" I said shutting up
"Okay then" She said. Tessa came back into the dining room, giving Trell a kiss on the forehead as they left.
"What did you have to tell me?" I asked her. She looked around, and took a deep breath.
"You're my niece" She said. I didn't know whether to feel happy or sad. So I just started crying.
"Aww why are you crying?" Maurice asked
"Because I actually have blood" I said going over to hug Tessa.
"Yeah I'm your mom's sister. It's a complicated story, but I don't feel like explaining it right now" She said, wiping my tears
"Oh, mom, who was that on the phone?" Terry asked her
"It was Detective Mason. And for right now, until they catch Terrance, you will be staying with Mercy. The cops will be watching the house, making sure nothing happens. They will follow to and from, wherever you need to go" Tessa said
"Okay, I'm cool with that" I said
"Grandma, do you need any help with the dishes?" Terry asked
"No, I have a perfectly good man sitting across from me with working hands" She said pointing at Maurice
"Woman I have carpal tunnel" He said putting his hands up
"You didn't whine about carpal tunnel when you was squeezing your fingers in my p-" I cut her off
"OKAY!" I yelled
"Yeah, Grandma. No one needs to know where his fingers were" Terry said, with a disgusted look on her face
"How do you think your mom got you? Foreplay sweetheart" Maurice said
"It's time to go" I said, going to give Grandma a kiss on the forehead
"Okay sugar, I'll see you later. The results should be in soon, so I'll call you, when they call me" She said patting my back
"Alright, bye Maurice" I said leaving the house
