Complications

Chapter 15

Isabella's POV

It's been a couple weeks now since Sophia and I told each other how we feel. We haven't been seeing each other as much since we don't want to get caught. I've stayed at her house only about two times now out of these couple of weeks.

My birthday is today though and later tonight Sophia's bringing me somewhere and I'm staying at her house. It's Saturday so John just thinks I'm staying at a friend's house. I haven't told him it's my birthday which he probably doesn't know anyways.

This will be my first birthday without my mom. It still doesn't feel real... I don't know if it will ever.

I'm getting ready because Carter and Alexis want to bring me out to dinner for my birthday. Since it is my birthday after all, I want to look hotter than I usually do... especially for Sophia.

I put on a light pink off the shoulder baby doll dress with ankle boots. I curl my hair and put more makeup on then I usually do. I spray my signature perfume on and grab a jacket in case I get cold.

"I had it first!" I hear Cooper yell running into my room with Asher on his tail.

"It's mine!" Asher yells stealing the dinosaur back and sticking out his tongue.

"Boys how about you share? Remember Santa Clause is watching." I say knowing it will work.

"Here you can have it." Asher says trying to give it back to Cooper.

"No it's okay, you keep it." Cooper says walking out of my room.

This is also my first Christmas without my mom. It's hard going through all of these holidays when we had so many traditions.

I grab my purse and phone and walk downstairs grabbing my keys. John and Lucy are in the living room while Mia is in the kitchen. "Is it okay if I go out with friends? It's just Carter and Alexis." I ask.

John doesn't even look at me but mumbles a yes while Lucy looks between us. I roll my eyes at him and get in my car driving to the restaurant we're meeting at.

John has been distant ever since I told him about me. When we eat dinner he barely bats an eye at me and everyone is starting to notice too. Sophia keeps saying he'll come around but I'm not sure anymore.

"There's the birthday girl!" Carter yells as I shut my car door. They're sitting at a bench in front of the restaurant.

I smile as I walk up to them, "How long have you been waiting here?" I ask.

"Doesn't matter, let's go." Alexis says dragging me in with Carter.

We get seated and order. "If you tell anyone here it's my birthday I'll kill both of you." I say glaring at both of them.

They both just smirk. "Your outfit is so cute today Bella." Alexis says.

"Yeah you never wear stuff like that but you look so good." Carter says.

"Thank you." I say smiling looking down. I'm glad they like it, I just hope Sophia likes it.

We get our food about fifteen minutes later. I get a taco salad that comes in a tortilla bowl. "So Alexis are you excited for our game Monday?" I ask taking a bite.

"Yeah, I'm sad that the season will be ending in a few weeks though since I'm so used to it now." She says.

"Same, are you going to play basketball when the season starts?" I ask.

"I've never played basketball so probably not, are you?" She asks surprised.

"I'm thinking about it. Back at my old school I'd always play softball then when that season was over I'd play either basketball or volleyball, whichever one was starting." I explain.
