{Author's POV}

You can't say someone's dead when they are fully breathing, that misses the point of being dead. You can't call time of death when someone is still alive. You are breathing. You are alive. You are not dead. Blood can still mean life. Death can still mean breath. Sometimes, there is no time of death, because there is no death. You can't just pull a tube out of someone and say they're dead. Sometimes surgeons get it wrong.

"Derek no!" Meredith's cracked, broken voice erupted the room. She held her stomach to gain her breath back, but not just to get her breath back. A child lay beneath her, Derek's child. The only thing that she had of him. Or so she thought.

Derek's chest went up. A breath? Is Derek breathing? "Derek!" Meredith yelled but this time filled with more hope and not screeching down the hospital. Bailey and Mark rushed back into the room only to see that his heart rate had started. Derek shepherd lives another day.
