G-et into God's Word

1 Peter 5:6-11

'Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen. '

R-eflect into God's Word

What could be the things you do that you need to watch out for and be alert to?

I do not know how to drive but maybe some of you know. And one thing is I know when driving, you need to focus, be alert and watch out where are you going through. You need to watch out for other vehicles with you, and the people beside you while you were driving and also watch out where are the path you're going.

But that's not only applied to driving. There is also a part in our spiritual lives that we also need to be alert and watch out for. We need to practice it and be vigilant. Peter warns believers not to glide thoughtlessly through life, but to "be alert" (v.8). The devil is actively trying to destroy us, and so we too need to be active, resisting temptation and standing firm in our faith (v.9). That's not something we have to do on our own though. God promises to be with us in our sufferings and, ultimately, to make us "strong, firm and steadfast" (v.10). By His power, we learn to remain watchful and alert in resisting evil and following Him.

Sometimes, we don't know that even our busyness, sickness, and others may use by satan to hinder us in our worship and ministry. Satan is using those things we used to do to divert our attention and for us to focus on the things we don't know that taking our attention out of Jesus. So we need to be more alert, watchful, and vigilant. Satan is like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. And if we won't watch out for the things we are doing, we might befall into the enemy's trap.

In what ways will you stay vigilant in following Jesus?

W-restle in Prayer

God, Thank you for Your word that reminds us again. Thank You for sustaining us with Your love and for not letting us fall into Satan's trap. Help us Lord to keep us from growing lazy or too comfortable in spiritual life. Help us to remain watchful and alert so that we can resist the temptation around us.
