❝The most interesting women are always the most whispered about❞ - Cassandra Clare

The Blue-Eyed Boy On The Soccer Field

I MIGHT'VE MADE the horrible choice of accepting this deal but I never back out of friendly competition. I guess it just runs in the Carter blood, my mother has always been at the top and people just don't like a successful black woman at the top of their game. Those 'people' obviously being men that are halfway through the balding process and about 3 decades older than her. Some racists here and there, mostly misogynistic though.

But now I and this mystery boy are tied 10 to 10 after several rounds of shooting. The competitive tension thick enough to cut straight through the looking glass. But then it was my turn and I line up the ball with an intense stare at the back of my head. My heart thumping in my chest for many reasons. I don't really want to give this guy my number being afraid of what he might do with it but then there's my fairness that gets in the way of that.

Curse my parents for raising me this way

"Are you gonna shoot the ball or not?" I turned around to see the same blue eyes staring at the ball and back to me with a playful smirk and crossed arms making his muscles bulge against the tight shirt he's wearing. I turn my frown into a slight scowl and give him a fierce glare that makes him shrink under my gaze.

But now as it was my turn to shoot the tiebreaker, either I get this and I get my favor or I don't and I have to give him my name and number. So I line up the ball towards the goal and swing my right foot towards it. Now...It does go in the direction of the goal...but ends up going an inch above it making the ball hit the iron gate instead.

I stand there close-eyed, hands on my knees while he doubles over in laughter. At least his laugh is cute, I even find a smile creeping up on my face.

"Well not so mystery girl anymore, time for your part of the deal to be fulfilled, but to break this thin ice I'll introduce myself first," He exclaimed, I opened my eyes to his figure standing in front of me with the ball in hand.

"Hi I'm Cardan, Cardan Kai Reyes" He transfers the ball into his right hand and sticks out his left for me to shake. I stare at his hand for a moment before inserting mine,

"Hi, I'm Althea, Althea Gia Carter," I said with a smile, Then he places a phone with a Peppa pig phone case that makes me chuckle lightly. I open it and go into the contact section all the while he's grabbing out stuff and bringing it to where I am. I put my contact as 'Thea ⚽️ ' and put in my number. After I was done I handed him back his phone and grabbed my duffle bag from his arm. I muttered thanks and said, "Guess I'll see you around Kai " I've seen people in books call each other by their last names, but why not their middle? I decided to give it a try and to be honest. I liked it.
