Everyone in the hall quieted, curious as to what the ever loving Applebee's floor cake was going on. It was happening again, the thing where Flash wasn't smacking the nerd with a notebook or bothering someone in the halls. He was being nice, and nobody knew what to do.
"I- you don't have to Flash, it's not that big of a deal" he refused, turning back and shutting his locker, wincing as he swung the pack back over the healing wounds.
"Not that big of a deal?" Flash questioned, slightly shocked, "dude, I'm pretty sure I gave you a lot more issues than you need, someone said you were depressed cuz of it at one point" he tried arguing, forgetting his insensitivity filter.
"You don't have that much power Flash, my life is crap enough to where your jokes were more like a nuisance than a real issue" Peter spoke truthfully, rolling his eyes as he starting walking to his first period.
"You've got to be kidding me, Peter I turned the whole school against you. What could be worse than that?" He trailed along behind Peter, beginning to annoy him.
"Maybe almost dying? That happens more than it should, and I'd rather stick up with you then deal with it, Flash. I think anyone would" he shoved through the thicker crowd, trying to lose Flash now. He was feeling claustrophobic by all the strangers, and bombarded with things he knew he shouldn't be answering so truthfully.
"How are you almost dying?? You live in a bad neighborhood or something?" The questions continued as they shoved through the crowd.
"None of your business Flash, just leave me alone please" he swiveled his way out of view and into a bathroom, out of sight in a panic, running into a stall and sitting on the seat.
It took him a second, but Peter calmed down as he ran his hands through his hair. Today already wasn't off to a good start.
So much for free breakfast, while the topic of hiding was amidst. At least he got that burrito earlier, it was pretty big compared to most.
Since Flash wasn't his problem right now, he dug through his bag for a charger. Getting it in hand, he made his way into first period, plugging his phone in before he sat down.
Luckily for his safety, MJ wasn't in this class. That could be dealt with later. Unluckily for his sanity however, Flash was. Flash came in moments after Pete got settled, throwing his jacket on Pete's desk as he headed to the back.
Peter sighed loudly as he moved to get it off the desk, a comb poking his hand when he gripped the fabric.
damnit.
If he refused, he'd seem rude, but if he accepted, that'd mean Flash would be bothering him all week.
Rude not being a feature built into his head, he reluctantly zipped up the jacket, trying to discreetly fix his hair to some extent. It was embarrassing to stoop so low as to have your bully offer you help because of how bad you looked, but cares seemed to be slipping away like skaters on ice while the teacher droned on about last week's notes.
The hour went by quickly, and Peter didn't know if he wanted to shuffle out quietly or return the things Flash gave him.
It was so weird on the sudden personality change.
Peter didn't get the chance to choose, Flash approaching him as he unplugged the charger.
"Hey Pete" he tossed Peter a water bottle as a smooth entrance, Pete catching it with surprise "you're gonna need it".
Peter didn't know if that was a peace offering or a threat.
"Okay.." he said slowly, nodding a thanks as he tried to process what exactly was happening.
"I've also got an extra lunch packet in my-"
"Look, Flash" Peter interrupted, uncomfort clear on his face "I don't know why you're being all buddy-buddy with me lately.. I don't know wether or not to be creeped out or grateful, no offense.. but you don't need to do all this stuff for me, alright? There's no need to go out of your way if you're looking for forgiveness, because you've already got that now. I'm sorry if this sounds mean in any way, but I'm just scarily confused why you're not trying to shove me in a locker right now. Are you alright?" Maybe Tony had gone to far.. maybe Flash was being told to do all of this. While the fantasy of Flash actually being nice was pleasant, it was too fast and too crazy.
"Peter.. I'm good, I just feel bad" He explained, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Don't, really. I'm not someone to stress over, and definitely not someone you should use to clear your conscious" he didn't mean to make it sound like that, but the look on Flash's face showed that it did.
"Fine, I won't give you everything I can, but can we at least try to be friends?" Flash accepted the comb Peter had held out for him during his talking.
"I-" Peter thought about it.
Flash had tormented him for years, and no one knew what was going on now and if it was permanent. Still, everyone deserved a second chance.
"Okay.." Peter sighed in defeat, the bell making the two of them jump.
Both ran from the room and to their separate classes, only having lunch and Chemistry together from this point forward.
The rest of the day went by as normally as it could for Peter. He avoided MJ the whole day, having multiple close calls. Flash had somehow gotten to be his lab partner, and Peter was so glad it was post-possibleFake-character arc. His walking was nearly normal again without trying to conceal it. All in all a success in his book.
When the last period bell rang, he bolted from the room. MJ would no doubt try to cut him off outside the room, but he wasn't having that. He made it out of the building with no troubles or interactions. Excellent.
Tower time.
Fun.
How could this go wrong? It's not like there were super spies or super heroes that he was about to be confronting. Right? Peter didn't know what to expect.
Doubts filled his mind as he entered the lobby, Abigail giving him a warm smile and his escort to the lift while he calmed his jittery senses.
