Laking gulat ko nang tawagan ako ni Sir Vren kanina — his voice sounding different than usual — para sabihing kailangan niya ang tulong ko. Pero lalo pa akong nagulat nang datnan ko siya sa kanyang condo unit na mukhang basang sisiw in his blue PJs, looking disgruntled and very far from the image of him na nakasanayan ko nang makita sa Medialink.

Of course, that was still not counting the moment he started throwing up. In fact, I even helped him go to the bathroom and everything, telling him to go and expel the alcohol he had drowned himself in for some unknown reason last night.

Seeing his pitiful condition, I even took the liberty to prepare some soup for him to eat.

"I have hands, Mira. I can feed myself," sabi niya sa akin nang akmang susubuan ko na siya ng niluto kong sopas. "Really, I just asked you to buy me medicine and something to eat. You can go back to work now."

"You are my work for today, Mr. Montevilla," sagot ko naman sa kanya. "Sa tingin mo, iiwanan kitang ganito ang sitwasyon mo?"

"But —"

"No buts, no ifs, no protests," I told him sternly. "Now, eat. Kailangang magkalaman ang tiyan mo bago ka uminom ng gamot."

His lips twitched, obviously curbing a smile, before opening his mouth to accept the spoonful of soup I was feeding him.

Oo, aaminin ko, dahil sa ilang araw na pag-iwas niya sa akin, na-miss ko rin naman itong si Sir Vren, which was why while he was still up to talk to me, sasamantalahin ko na ang sitwasyon.

"You really shouldn't have bothered, Mira." He gestured to the bowl of soup I prepared for him, now half-empty. "But thank you. You cook well, by the way."

"Talaga ba?" Bahagya akong tumawa. "Tsamba lang siguro. Normally, scrambled eggs are my best dish."

Sir Vren chuckled as well. "At least, now it's scrambled eggs and soup. And you're a good nurse, too. I'm starting to feel better now."

"Mabuti naman." Ngumiti ako. "Actually, gusto ko ngang maging nurse no'ng bata pa ako."

"Is that so?" He raised his brows, obviously surprised by my little trivia. "Vince would've been happy. You could have been working at AMMC now, had you pursued that dream."

"I actually like it better in Medialink," I replied with a shrug before feeding him another spoonful of soup.

My response earned me one of his lopsided grins. "That's good to know."
