Chapter 47

It's been 8 weeks since her 12 weeks scan. Peter's proposal plan is being finalised. It's taken over a month since Sam's 12 week scan and today is the day of her anomaly scan. Peter has booked the day off to go with Sam. 

At the clinic they check themselves in and almost immediately they are called in. 

Sam lays herself on the bed and rolls her top up ready. The sonographer puts the gel on her belly and then rubs the transducer over her belly, spreading the gel with it. 'Do you want to find out the gender?' The sonographer asks. Sam looks at Peter who nods and smiles. 

'Congratulations!' The sonographer beams. 'You're having a girl!' Sam and Peter look at each other and smile then kiss. 'You can collect the scan picture from reception. I'm assuming you want one?' Sam nods. 'OK, well, everything looks fine, have you made an appointment with your geneticist like suggested?' The sonographer asks as she puts the transducer down and wipes the gel off of Sam's belly.

'Yeah. I've got one next week.' Sam responds as she puts her top down and sits up. 'Thank you.' She smiles.

'No problem.' The sonographer grins. 'Now you're next appointment will be in 6 weeks from now.' Peter and Sam thank the sonographer and leave the consultation room. Sam tells Peter to collect the photo and that she will meet him down by the car, she decides to pass through the ED on her way down. 

'Hey!' Maggie exclaims when she see's Sam walking through the ED. She's at the nurses station with Natalie. 'Have you just had your 20 week scan?'

'Yep.' Sam smiles.

'And?' Natalie asks wanting to know the gender of the baby. 

'Ah!' Sam laughs tapping her nose. 'You'll have to find out.' Little known to Sam, Peter has asked Herrmann if he can have a private party at Molly's for the proposal and gender reveal. He has arranged for Boden, Kelly, Capp, Cruz, Tony, Matt, Mouch, Stella, Otis, Sylvie, Gabby, Herrmann, Erin, Jay, Hank, Adam, Kim, Alvin, Kevin, Antonio, Anna, Mark, Laura, Dr Choi, Dr Rhodes, Dr Charles, Sarah, Maggie, Natalie, Will, April, Sharon, Shaylynn and all other family and friends to join them for the momentous event. She says bye and heads out to the car where Peter is waiting. 'So, where's the photo?' 

'The printer wasn't working. They said we'll have to collect it tomorrow.' Peter lies. 

'That's a shame.' Sam frowns. 'Anyway, what are we going to do about a gender reveal?' 

'I've got something already planned.' Peter smirks. 

'What am I going to do with you?' Sam laughs as she kisses him. 'Let's go and get ready then.' 

Once they get home, they both get washed and dressed. Peter wears a blue, washed shirt, black trousers and leather sneakers.

Sam wears a pink dress, with pink heels. She wears her hoop earrings, pink bracelets and her icicle necklace. 

Once they are ready, they head to Molly's. When they get there, they see that everyone is already there and when they walk in, pink streamers fly from cannons by the door, balloons rise from boxes and Herrmann and Gabby walk in wheeling sweets and treats on utility carts. Everyone claps and cheers. 'Did you organize all of this?' Sam asks Peter in astonishment.

'Well, I had a little help from Hank, Shaylynn and Erin.' Peter smiles. 'Come on, let's go sit down.' They head over to a table and take a seat. Shaylynn and Kelly walks over to them. 

'Why are you wearing heels?' Shaylynn asks Sam. 

'I'm not that far along yet!' Sam laughs. Shaylynn winks at Peter who smiles and picks up a microphone that was hidden under the table. He motions for Herrmann to turn the music down and everyone looks around, wondering what's going on.

 'I'd like to thank you all for coming.' Peter starts and everyone looks his way. 'I never thought in a million years that I would be a father.' He continues. Shaylynn then hands him a pink envelope and he hands it to Sam.

'What's this?' She asks. 'I feels a bit heavy.' 

'Open it.' He tells her. She opens the envelope and takes out a card. It's the scan picture.

She reads the words on it. 'Mommy, Will you marry daddy? Love baby girl Stone.' 

'Sam I love you with all my heart. I will never stop loving you.' He says. 'Empty the envelope.' He instructs her. She empties the contents of the envelope into her hand and out drops a ring.

She gasps and covers her mouth as Peter drops to one knee. 'Samantha Voight. Will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?'
