"He- hello?" A half-asleep Ava answered her phone. It was the same night but a couple of hours after Lucky's shooting.

"Damn, even your sleepy voice sexy,"

Frowning, Ava removed her mask and stared at her screen. Once her brain registered the name, she sat up, "Lucky?"

"The one and only, love. You must've had a long day."

"Unfortunately," she laid back and rubbed her eyes.

"What'd you do?"

Yawning, Ava rolled onto her side and closed her eyes, "Ship orders, work on new orders, fix tha' site when it crashed. I went out for lunch with my friends and played some game with my family to bet on what my other sister was having."

"No working at the hospital, seems like?"

"I was off... but even when I'm off, I have my actual job to do."

"So, your passion is making clothes?"

Ava nodded as if he could see her, "Yes. Art and fashion. I became a nurse as a plan b and to help me buy supplies even though my dad makes sure— never mind," she caught herself.

Lucky chuckled, "Daddy lets you spend his money, huh? Ain't nothing wrong with that, love."

Ava bit down on her lip and stared at a painting on her wall, "I don't know... I thought you would call me childish or something."

"Just because you live with your parents, doesn't mean you ain't independent. I never met a young woman that has two careers, going to college and sweet as hell. You a rare breed and still young. Taking care of yourself ain't all it's cut out to be, this adult shit is ghetto as hell. But you straight, usually, I run into women that be on some I got two jobs, I don't need shit from you but good dick. Or my favorite, you got money, why not let me spend it?" He chuckled as did Ava.

"Honestly..." she yawned again, "I don't fault 'em for thinking like dat. Sometimes their environment plays a part in how they view things."

Lucky was impressed, "You a feminist?"

Ava gasped, "No, I just been around a lot of personalities living here. Sometimes I have to catch myself from judging people but sometimes it just be uncalled for and it tears my nerves up," she shook her head.

Lucky laughed softly, "You don't use profanity much do you, love?"

"Eh," she shrugged. "If I'm singing along to a song or really mad. I'm not afraid to, I just... I guess don't care to use it. But if you met my family, you would think I was adopted, especially with tha' men, whew!" She giggled.

"You just keep on surprising me,"

Ava smiled, rolling onto her back and stared at the ceiling, "Do you know... you are tha' first guy dat I gave my number to?"

Lucky's ego boosted, "Oh, word? I must be special," he cracked.

"I don't know..." her voice softened, "Something about you... kinda tells me dat you won't hurt me."

Lucky was quiet for a moment then cleared his throat, "I don't ever make false promises or create false hope, sweetheart. But, if you were just someone I wanted to get in my bed, I wouldn't be talking to you on the phone, feel me?"

"I guess dat means... you like me?" She covered her face in shame.

"Listen," he paused momentarily, "I'm diggin' you, I'ma leave it at that, ok?"

Ava felt warm on the inside, "Ok."

Lucky chuckled, "I ain't with all this gushy mess, so let's change the subject. You wanna kick it tonight? No funny shit."
