First, there was darkness then came the screams. Confused, Kairo followed the bloody trail leading through the dim hall. He had no idea where he was or who the blood belonged to but the uneasy feeling was starting to feel like a gunshot wound to his gut, the closer he got to the cracked door.

"I loved you! Look what you made me do!" The disoriented voice yelled followed by a gunshot.

Kairo's entire body jerked as if he had been the one shot.

With a racing heart, he ran into the room and his eyes fell on Trent's back. Still confused but now in pain, Kairo cautiously stepped forward.

"Look what you made me do!" Trent hollered, dropping the gun.

Knitting his brows together, Kairo's eyes traveled from Trent to the body on the floor. The gnawing and pain returned as he moved closer.

"Ah... damn," he grunted, holding his stomach as he stumbled forward.

Trent walked away as sirens blared in the distance. Confused at the smell of smoke, Kairo couldn't make out the person's face as Trent returned with jug of gasoline.

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust—"

"Ay man," Kairo coughed, trying to touch him but his hand went right through.

"Till though return unto the ground..." Trent drenched the body in more gasoline. "For out of it was thou taken... for dust thou art, and dust it shall return—"

"Hey!" Kairo tried to stop him from lighting the match. "What you doing man?" Kairo coughed again.

"Until we meet again,"  Trent mumbled, dropping the match.

Finally seeing his mom's lifeless body with a gunshot to her chest, Kairo fell to his knees and gasped as if someone had just stomped on his stomach.

"M— mom?!"

"MOM!"

"Ashes to ashes," Trent began again and Kairo stared at him.

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" Kairo forced himself up and charged at him but was shot right in the stomach.

"Dust to dust," Trent fired another shot, and Kairo's body fell into the wall.

Trying to speak, blood spilled from his mouth as he stared at Trent confused until he saw the horns growing.

"He's next,"

Before Kairo could reply, the spirit charged at him.

"KAIRO!" Assyria screamed, shaking her brother from his nightmare. She was making her way downstairs when she heard him crying for their mom. She wanted to mind her business until he started screaming.

"KAI!" She shook him harder and he gasped, jumping away from her.

Terrified, Assyria backed up and watched as he looked himself over before hopping out the bed. Drenched in sweat and his heart pounding in his chest, Kairo bent over and closed his eyes as he took slow breaths.

"Kai..." Assyria walked over slowly. "What's wrong?"

Still trying to make sense of his nightmare, Kairo shook his head and balled his fists. Something was wrong with his mom, he could feel it.

"You're scaring me," Assyria mumbled when he started crying. They rarely saw him cry.

"I need... Sy, I need a minute," he spoke in between breaths as the nauseating feeling returned.
