Vacation had come to a wild and unexpected end for the kids. Two days after Renae left, the adults decided it would be best to leave as well. Yae'Shawn and Reign had agreed to work on their relationship as slow as they could. Tamir was still trying to figure out if he had actual feelings for Kaari or if it was just a temporary phase. Dajon wanted to remain upset with King but decided to be the bigger person and forgave him but he was cautious of how he moved around him, now. Karen tried to give King some encouraging words, but everything she said went in one ear and out the other.

He knew he had officially fucked up but he wanted to move around everyone as if he were fine, but they recognized a broken man when they saw one. He was putting up a front but they saw right through his mask. He attempted to play checkers with the devil and hadn't realized that the devil was playing chess and watching as he disrespected his morals and himself one by one.

Renae meant what she said when she told King that he would have a check waiting on him for everything he ever bought or gifted her. When he and the kids returned home, the atmosphere of the house felt different, strangely different. A lot of things were missing, furniture was rearranged, and boxes and bins filled the walkway of the living room and hall. And on the coffee table sat two checks for King, along with the rest of the jewelry that she wasn't able to return, courtesy of King getting ahold of his jeweler and telling him not to accept anything back from Renae.

Once again, he had made it harder on himself by playing the alpha card and trying to show her that he had and would always have the upper hand. That no longer excited Renae, it turned her off. He tried to talk to her later that day but she kept walking by him, packing as if he weren't even there. That was until he grabbed her. For some damn reason, he had a habit of grabbing her, and Renae was sick of it.

They argued. It's what he wanted. He assumed that it meant that there was still a chance for him to fix things but she had mentally checked out. Later that day, he made love to her as if his life depended on it and she welcomed it. But while he was asleep, she had Dajon come and help her move her things into the guest house and after that, she changed the locks, returned the original house key, and made spare keys to the guest house for the kids, Dajon, and Bryson. She wanted to find a nice one-bedroom apartment but she promised the kids that she would be home when they got there.

She kept her word but knew that she would never stay under the same roof as King. They weren't upset with her, Kaari and Reign had a long two-hour conversation with them on the jet before they landed and they agreed to see how things would play out and to only interfere if they felt they had no other choice. Kairo didn't like it but he was content with it, for the time being.

King refused to sign the papers which only made things harder on his end. The fight that Renae displayed previously flipped to him and it was her, who was no longer interested. Realizing that he wasn't going to let her go so easily, she hired an attorney to get the ball rolling. If he wouldn't answer to her, then he'd just have to direct his questions and concerns to her attorney, until she saw his name on the dotted lines. It was funny to her, how much he wanted her to sign the fake documents before and as soon as she decided to do him better than he could do himself, he couldn't take it.

Everyone was expecting her to walk around depressed, angry, or always crying, but she was fine. Yeah, it hurt that things turned out how they had but she was fine and going through the motion of things day by day. She had kids to worry about and the fact that they were ok with her decision kept her mind and heart at ease. King on the other hand was drinking more. Always irritated. Always trying to get into the guest house. Always trying to use the kids as an excuse for her to come over.

He missed her.

She knew but no longer cared.

He disappointed her. Hurt her. Toyed with her heart and mind as if it were a game. Did he break her? Renae was whole, she was just wiser now. Aware of things for what they really were. Aware that sometimes you could love a person until you were blue in the face but if they were done, there was no such thing as rebuilding or change. She thought what she and King were doing was part of her growth but every time she turned around, he was sparking arguments then acting as if she started them or was taking what he said out of context.

She loved him.

Loved him but she was learning how to not love him. Learning how to be the best version of herself that she knew she could be. Learning to be the best mother in the world. She was learning. All-day, every day, she was constantly teaching herself something. She wanted to prove to herself that she could handle anything that life threw her way without help. She wanted to prove that she wasn't the frail person that everyone expected her to be whenever King wasn't around.

She spent two decades telling herself that she needed him to function. Spent two decades telling herself that she would die if he was no longer in her life.

She was wrong.
