Only the beginning

Monroe

I looked at the brick wall in front of me and wondered how in the world I would be getting through it. I looked up to my mother who had a proud smile on her face. The youngest Airson witch was going to Hogwarts now. Every pureblood family enjoys sending off their heirs.

She put a hand on my shoulder, "Okay sweetie, just run really fast and push your cart. I will be right behind you. I want to capture this moment for my memory book of your Hogwarts years."

I groaned knowing that this book would be filled with friendships that would either make it to the end, or die after the first year. Maybe if I was a disappointment and got in the wrong house, I wouldn't have to have a book.

I pushed with all my might and ran straight through the red bring wall. When I came out on the other side I was amazed with the sight in front of me. I looked at the scarlet train and couldn't wait any longer to get on it.

I put away my bags and kissed my mother on the cheek before running onto the train without another word. I was amazed with everything I saw. I had a brother who had also attends Hogwarts,, but he never spoke of it fondly.

Walking down the compartments, a door slid open and inside were two of my closest friends I had while growing up. The two people I knew who believe the same as me. That your magical blood doesn't matter.

"Rowie, it's been only two days since seeing you, but might I say I have missed your face. Come sit with James and I." Sirius Black cheerfully said to me. I knew he was happy to leave home like any other pureblood child who believed differently than their parents.

I walked into the compartment and sat right next to Sirius leaving James to daydream about the girl in the compartment next to us. I looked across to see a beautiful redhead sitting with an old looking boy.

I leaned over to Sirius keeping my eyes on the girl and the stocker, James, "How long has he been watching her and has he been rejected yet?" I questioned.

Sirius groaned, "Ever since he laid eyes on the girl, but she has either had her nose in a book, or talking to Servus Snape. I think she's a muggleborn, because I have never heard of her. She seems like someone we should have on the team."

"I think James would scare her away too easily. Maybe let me be the one to be her friend. You and James don't have the best relationship with Severus anyway. She wouldn't like you if you brothered her friend." I pointed out to him.

Sirius rolled his eyes playfully, "James, Monroe caught us in not liking Snivellus. What will we ever do?"

I shook my head, "Sometimes I think you are Slytherin material. You hope so much for Gryffindor, but I see nothing of bravery within you. I see rudeness." I teased him.

"Monroe, speaking of houses, what house do you think you would like? I know we all here want nothing to do with Slytherin, so what's your top picks?" James asked me.

"I would very much like to get into Gryffindor, out of spite for my parents. If not that then I think Hufflepuff wouldn't be so bad. I just want nothing to do with the family house." I blankly said.

Sirius nodded and James went back to daydreaming over Lily. Sirius and I both looked at each other and started laughing. We had never seen James like something so much, since he found quidditch.

All three of us were taken out of our thoughts when we heard a knock on the compartment door. I looked up to see a boy with light brown hair and a boy with dirty blonde hair.

They opened the door and the one with brown hair smiled shyly, "Umm, there isn't any more seating open that kids would allow us to sit with them. Can we sit with you three?"

I smiled brightly, "Of course! I'm Monroe Airson." I stunk out my hand for them to shake, "This is Sirius Black and James Potter." I said pointing at the two boys I had known all my life.

The two boys walked in and sat down beside James. The one with brown hair smiled thankfully, "I'm Remus Lupin and this is Peter Pettigrew. I hope you don't mind two half-bloods sitting with you."

"Of course we don't. Muggleborn, half-blood, or even pureblood none of it matters to us. We are all the same and were given the same chance to come here. Blood shouldn't matter." Sirius said kindly.

I wrapped my arm around Sirius' shoulder, "Well Sirius, I think we found some good friends to keep along with us? Don't you think so, James" I asked, turning to him.

James wrapped his arms around the two boys, "I think we did, Monroe. We will be best friends for life. The five of us until the end of time." James said emotionally.

------------

I was now sitting at the Gryffindor table with James, Sirius, Peter, and Remus trying to figure out how Sirius and I owl our parents telling them about the house we got into.

"Mum will be happy as long as I am happy, but Father will raise more fire than the devil himself. Not to help, now Kade will be the favorite child, because he got into the right house." I complained.

Sirius put his hands on my shoulders and shook me, "WAKE UP! We don't have to owl them today, but maybe in the next week. Just be honest like I am and say the house you're in and say I hope you are proud of me." Sirius said nonchalantly.

I pushed his hands off my shoulders and turned to Lily who was sitting in between Sirius and James, "I wish I could have a life like yours. Worry free of parents being disappointed and being burnt off a wall."

I crossed my arms on the table and laid my head down. Peter tapped my hand from across the table. I looked up to see Remus and Peter with a complexed look on their faces.

Soon I realized that they didn't understand what being burnt off the wall meant. Both being half-blood they hardly knew anything of the strict rules of pureblood children. I'm shocked I haven't been burnt off yet.

Sirius took the question so I wouldn't have too, "When a pureblood is disowned, they get burnt off the family wall. We most likely will be burnt off like my cousin Andy. She married a muggle-born."

Remus turned to James, "What about your parents, James? Do they care as much as the Airson and Black families do?"

James shook his head, "No, they don't. They would be happy with me, even if I ditched magic and moved to the muggle world."

Sirius and I glared at James, not out of anger, but jealousy. If only we parents like the Potters. My mother was much like Mrs. Potter, but my father was just like Orion Black. Strict and selfish.

Once we all were all sitting at the table waiting to be taken to the Gryffindor Tower, Sirius leaned over, "Have you talked to Kade since arriving? I have seen him glare at you a bit since sitting here."

I looked over at the Slytherin table where my brother was sitting. He was a sixth year and five years older than me. He had always been there for me. He kept my secret and I kept his. We kept the family secret.

I turned back to Sirius, "I don't think he will want to talk to me. I'm now the family disappointment."

Sirius laughed, "You aren't going to be the only one, Rowie."

We all finished dinner, and the head boy and girl showed us to our dorms. I instantly found Lily and her friend Marlene and decided to share with them. We found the perfect room for three and called our beds.

After unpacking I went back to the common room to find the four boys talking away about magic and quidditch. Remus looked up and saw me coming down the stairs, "Oh Hey Monroe, care to join us?"

I nodded and plopped down between James and Sirius without warning. As soon as I sat on them, they scooted over to make room for me. I flashed a smile at the two of them and joined in on the conversation they were having. I didn't even notice young Sirius Black was blushing when I smiled at him.
