A/N: In this one-shot, I would be using Teppei just so I could have a conflict with this story. Since I also love Teppei’s naiveness and Izuki being funny because he is not (do you get my point, LOL XD).

Sometimes, the best things in life can’t be found.
Because we have our eyes set to something, which we tend to ignore what’s fated for us.
It’s been 10 years. Friggin 10 years you’ve been close friends since you two were both 6 years old. 10 friggin years you’ve put up with his lame puns slash jokes. 10 frggin years you’ve supported him in basketball. 10 friggin years you’ve been classmates. 10 friggin years you’ve been friends. 10 friggin years you’ve been there by his side.
I friggin Haruna Yuki, the ever loyal bestfriend…

- Girly POV -
“Hey Haruna, can you please make that bestfriend of yours stop?”
The clutch captain of Seirin, Hyuga Junpei , who has now numerous tick marks on his temples asked me as he angrily point at Izuki, who’s now blabbering his famous puns non-stop the whole time we’re eating lunch at the basketball court.
“Nah, Hyuga-kun, just let the boy be, he’ll eventually stop when he gets tired.”
“But he’s been doing it for a whole hour!!!” Hollered the clutch captain as he desperately covered his ears.
You see, I am here at the basketball gym together with the Seirin players as their manager. And yes, I am bestfriend with the team’s amazing point guard, wielding this special eyes called Eagle eye. A second year and at the same section with Izuki. An average student who don’t go below the top 20 and has an inclination with sports obviously with basketball, but I do archery competitively.
Soon enough, Izuki’s ranting was stopped as Aida called everyone’s attention to go back to practice.
Owh I forgot to tell you why I can tolerate Izuki’s lame puns, actually I don’t really know how to start nor to explain. All I know is in my eyes and ears, he is one of the most humorous persons I’ve ever met. He isn’t that smart, nor talented except in basketball but he’s very motivated in whatever he do, that includes his puns and jokes.
(A/N: I am using the words “lame” and “puns” Lel idek pls forgive me XD)
“Neh neh, Yuki-chan, why the long face?” Teppei laid his big hands on my head and gently ruffled it. He’s currently exempted for practice since he needs to rest after the Kirisaki Daichi match. Owh and next week, we’ll have training at the mountains.
“Owh Teppei! Nothing, just thinking about nothing. How about you?” I said trying to avert the attention to him, but sometimes the airhead Teppei thinks and observes sensibly.
“Changing the subject, neh Yuki-chan?”
“Owh no I am not!”
“The Dandere being Tsundere, huh?” He then headlocked me between his muscular biceps and triceps
“OWH U STAHP!!!” I responded by playfully nudging his side, to which he just laughed because Teppei is actually ticklish at that part.
- Izuki POV -
I was casually doing my duty in the practice game between the seniors and juniors as the Point Guard. The team were doing very well so do I. Not until I saw something that made me fail, passing the ball to the opponent.
“Oi Izuki!!! Focus!!!” Hyuga hollered above me, probably about to enter his clutch time.
“Gomen Hyuga…” I responded weakly, feeling that I lost a lot of energy inside.
I saw Kiyoshi casually sitting beside Haruna. At first they were just talking, laughing here and there. They look straight into each other’s eyes whenever the two talk, to which I can’t manage when I am with Haruna. I don’t know why.
It was really fine Kiyoshi talking to Haruna, but there are times that I felt something uncomfortable inside of me. Like now, where Kiyoshi gently head locked Haruna between his arms and harshly ruffling her hair at the process. Haruna responded nudging Kiyoshi’s side, which turned Teppei into a laughing mess as it tickled him good time.
I might be watching too much that when ball went coming to me, I didn’t notice it and it landed straight to my face, which caused my nose bleed big time, it also left a slight bruise.
- Haruna POV –
Teppei and I were still messing around each other when I noticed everyone inside a court gather around a lying figure on the wooden floor. Teppei and I stared at each other and decided to join in. What I saw made me panic and angry. Tick marks growing in my temples.
“Oi Izuko no Baka!!! What the hell happened to you and your friggin eagle eye you- argh!!! Let me get some ice and first aid kit!” And yes, of course I am still worried for my bestfriend slash long time love.
Even though he turned down the affection long ago. I stomped to the room where the stuffs I am supposed to get are in. I rummaged through the freezer and got some ice pack and a bucket full of ice. I also grabbed the first aid kit and made my way to the court once again.
The practice game resumed but now Izuki was benched and holding his bleeding nose, facing the ground with some tissues for he not to stain the poor wooden floor.
“Oi Izuki no Baka, let me see it.” I lifted his face up and removed his hand holding it. He flinched as I held his hand, he stared at me and a dust of pink adorned his fair face. Then he looked to his side, breaking the eye contact.
I shrugged off unnecessary thoughts and made him face me by holding his cheeks. “Owh it’s bleeding non-stop un? For now here’s a new pack of tissue and place this ice bag near your nose. Then I’ll treat this bruise.”
He might be a grown up teen boy now, but he won’t really change in my eyes. He’s still the lame pun-joker, yet the most gentleman and kind Izuki Shun I’ve known.
Izuki POV
Practice was over, and as usual Haruhi told me she’ll wait for me to get changed and we’ll walk home together. I’ve got used to it, but for some reasons, right after we won against Kirisaki Daichi and she worriedly attended to Kiyoshi’s wounds (of course together with Riko) I felt… something inside… like it was aching… but I don’t know how to say it exactly…
Jealousy? Well if yes, probably because she’s my bestfriend and I just want of course the care from her.
We are now in the locker room changing, I didn’t notice everyone has already left and it was just me and Kiyoshi in the area.
“Neh Izuki, do you like Name-chan?” He suddenly asked me which made me drop my shirt on the concrete. I quickly composed myself, picked up the shirt and threw it measly back at the locker.
“Of course! I do, what for that we’re best of friends?”
“No, no! Not that way! I mean the girl loves boy thingy?” he retorted back, with a glint of malice in his eyes.
“Don’t tell me you still like Haruhi!!!”
Yes Kiyoshi actually takes a liking at YN, but she then rejected Teppei’s intentions a year ago during the White Day. No one knew why since the two actually grew pretty close at the period of one year and they do have a good friendly relationship. Also, Kiyoshi isn’t a bad boyfriend material at all, for I could assure you he is one of the most gentleman guy I’ve ever known, not to mention gentle and honest.
Well ahem, I am the most popular guy form the basketball team to the girls, but I dunno why I don’t get any chocos or confession from girls. Haaruhi told me because it was my lame puns that drive them away. But of course I don’t believe her because she even laughs at my jokes everytime!!!
Back to the topic.
“I told no one that I’ve gave up on her, do I?” He said lowly as he walked towards me and offered his hand. “Let’s make a promise, if ever Yuki-chan gave me a chance and we became couples, you won’t get in a way?” He glared at me with such serious eyes.
“I don’t get what you’re saying but don’t you ever hurt Haruhi!” I returned the handshake firmly, not knowing why I am involved with his thing.
Haruhi POV
Izuki and I are walking home together, not hand in hand, but of course I wish we were, hahaha. I punched myself mentally, but then I felt my hand cold, damn I forgot my mittens!!!
Just then I was prepared to keep it warm by imprisoning it on my armpit (A/N: lol author do that XD) A pair of hand grabbed mine.
“Your hands are cold again, does it? Here wear mine for now.” He gently put on his mitten on my hand. It was big but it felt so warm and cosy in my hands.
“T-Thanks..”
“Say Haruhi, Kiyoshi said he still hasn’t given up on you. What can you say about that?” HE stopped dead on his tracks.
I noticed him stop and I too stopped and faced him. His head low, both his hands on his pockets.
I thought for a while about Teppei and I. Teppei is undeniably a good catch; gentleman, caring, kind, understanding, considering he is a classic airhead and all he thinks is “let’s have some fun” stuff. All in all he isn’t bad himself.
“I dunno, he is a really good man, we’re friends, I rejected him, yet he remained my good friend. That is a proof that he isn’t just up to having a relationship with me. I think he really treasures me or something.”
“He said he would try again courting you…” His voice was now deeper and…. Sadder? But why?
“Hmmm, I am single, no one’s courting me. So why don’t give it a shot, right?” I said nonchalantly, unaware of my bestfirend’s emotions.
Izuki POV
“I dunno, he is a really good man, we’re friends, I rejected him, yet he remained my good friend. That is a proof that he isn’t just up to having a relationship with me. I think he really treasures me or something.” Of course my ever relaxed, naïve and nonchalant bestfriend said in a normal tone.
“He said he would try again courting you…” Why voice was like asking and hoping for an answer my ear longs to hear.
She paused for a second and then looked at me, straight at the eyes. “Hmmm, I am single, no one’s courting me. So why don’t give it a shot, right?”
I felt a sharp pang in my heart. I should be happy, right? I should be, since my bestfrined would finally open herself to possibilities. And experience being loved and cared differently by a guy that wholly treasures her for what she is.
And the prospective guy is Kiyoshi, to which I can’t argue that he has any bad side that would probably break my bestfriend’s heart.
So then I just answered her an. “Ok then… be happy whatever your decision is, Haruhi” I turned my back at her and took a different route back home.
“See you tomorrow Izuki!” She charged towards me and gave me a quick hug behind and right after that, went running to her route home.
I smiled to myself at how YN can be energetic always. “I guess tomorrow, the bestfriend needs to support her friend, hn?”
- Time Skipuu –
More days passed and we trained the usual way, improvement with training here and there. I didn’t care at the moment. All and everything I saw was Kiyoshii beside Haruhi. Kiyoshi helping Haruhi with heavy stuffs. Kiyoshi asking Haruhi to tutor him. Kiyoshi sharing a bentou with her. Kiyoshi teaching her tricks in basketball, Kiyoshi introducing her to his grandparents. And the sole lone time I have with Haruhi, walking her home, he even tags along.
The week before the battle with Touo, Riko decided that we need to train at the mountains.
We do fartlek and other regimens at morning and test our improvements at night. Haruhi if not assisting us, she practices her archery from time to time at the separate archery room at the hotel.
Kiyoshi of course tries his best to impress Haruhi to which Haruhi responds quite, unusually, since she now retorts back with smart remarks which made Kiyoshi blush every time she do so. You can say they’re casually flirting with each other.
And thanks whoever god is watching above, I finally found a lone time with Haruhi. Though she’s still engrossed with her archery practice. It seems that either she hasn’t noticed me or she’s ignoring me.
She was now wearing the traditional archery outfit. A loose kimono like outfit. The top, plain white only kept together by a string and the bottom was like a loose blue square pants that from afar, looks like a skirt.
She launch arrows one at a time, every shot perfectly lands at the middle. 20 shots, she made 20 perfect shots for the whole hour I am here. Yet she won’t stop even whatever I do. SO then my body moved automatically and I hugged her from behind.
“Haruhi … are you angry? Or perhaps ignoring me for a reason?” I buried my face to her exposed shoulder or crook of her neck, I dunno, it was exposed in her outfit so I had this urge to rest my head in that place.
“I-Izuki!!! Y-you’re there all the time? Sorry!!!” She tried to wiggle free from my hug but then I tightened my hug further. Of course being careful not to hurt my bestfriend. “And no I am not ignoring you. I was just merely trying not to distract anyone on their own trainings.”
“But you have time for Kiyoshi?!!!” I half shouted since my voice was muffled on YN’s neck.I dunno what was with me but I felt something behind my eyes forming, then just seconds I felt water dripping out my eyes, down to Haruhi’s shoulder
Haruhi POV
He asked me if I was ignoring him all this time. Of course I said no! I was just trying not to mess around everyone’s training so then I decided to do mine as well.
And Izuki is friggin hugging me from behind, his face buried in my neck. I am not ticklish at all but that action made me feel something light and fluffy on the inside. To no avail, we probably look like lovers now.
Duh who am I kidding? Of course myself XD
“But you have time for Kiyoshi!” He half shouted, muffle voice rang loud through the room. Then I felt something wet on my shoulder, he was as well shaking and silently whimpering.
Wait, what the heck’s happening? Why does he sound so…. Angry? Is it about Teppei? But why? The poor guy only does thing like-
“Tell me… please…” His voice was almost pleading. Sorrowful?
Of course he’s my bestfriend, so I’ll tell him the truth. Even how quick embarrassing it might be.
“Well he makes time for me, I guess?”
After I said that, he immediately let go of the hug, quickly turned around and faced his back at me.
“I-I see..I wish my bestfriend best wished then…”
But then I just told him half of the story.
“All Teppei and I talk about was you, did you know that? He always say good things about you, like ALWAYS! I even thought he is gay and he has a thing for you. Funny right?”
I saw him flinch a little. “No it’s not…”
Ok he’s still not ok, maybe I should do this talk faster.
“Could you be honest with me?” I didn’t wait for his response and made my own way. “How do you feel about me and Teppei?”
“You both are good pair of friends? Or more than that?” He said, his voice deeper and gloomier..
“Oi Izuki! I don’t know what’s going through that head of yours, but this isn’t so you!!! Do we have a problem in here?”
“I am not sure either…”
Ugh, this is going nowhere!!! “You know? You’re a BAKA! This conversation isn’t going anywhere sensible!!! Think about things first, clear and make up your mind! I’m leaving!!!” With that, I stormed off outside the practice room.
“W-Wait Haruhi!!!” He called for me but I didn’t care.
That time I felt angry as I’ve felt disappointed at the same time. Like I was waiting for something he’ll say. But ugh, I dunno. I just decided to go straight to the forest, not changing my outfit and not caring if it was already night time.
Izuki POV
“Mina, has anyone saw Haruhi?” Riko asked right after he dismissed us in our late night practice. “Dinner would be served soon.”
“I haven’t seen Yuki-chan as well…” Kiyoshi responds, obviously worried.
“I saw Haruhi-san somewhere around the woods, though I called her, she seems not to hear me and ignore me.” Kuroko popped out of nowhere, scaring everyone.
But I didn’t care anymore. The last thing I remembered is everyone was calling and asking me where I am going, yet I continued to run inside the already dark forest, with only the aid of a tiny flashlight.
Teppei POV
“Teppei, why did you requested that we allow Izuki alone to look for Haruhi? Aren’t you the one supposed to do that? Since… you know? Aida asked as she looks at nowhere in particular.
“Are? No I am not courting Yuki-chan.”
“You’re kidding me Teppei.”
“When did I ever lie? Especially when it is Yuki-chan?”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever suits you. But if they don’t return soon, I’ll force all of you to look for those two idiot!!!”
“Wow this is the first time you’re not being an air-head.” Said Hyuuga.
Little did everyone know Teppei did “somehow” plan everything.
- Flashback desu! -
“Neh Yuki-chan, did you know Izuki is one of the most famous guys of the basketball?”
“…” – Yuki-chan
“Yuki-chan, did you know-“
She stopped me by covering my mouth with her hand “Teppei what is this all about? You won’t stop talking about my bestfriend. Are you gay or something?”
“O-of course no!!! I am not gay at all!!!”
“Then why are you Izuku this, Izuki that?!!!”
“Don’t you see it Yuki-chan?”
“See what?”
Still acting like innocent huh? “Izuki finally sees you beyond being his bestfriend!”
She raised a single brow at me and let out a scoff. “Like hell he would, you airhead Teppei!!!” She then pouted that cute pout of hers to which I can’t force myself to pinch her cheeks like I usually do.
And then Izuki has to see us doing that “lovey dovey” thingy.

Ugh why am I even singing here atop of a tree near this crystal like sparkling pond in the middle of the forest?
Ah yeah right. I am friggin confused of what’s up with me this past few days. And why is Izuki acting differently this past few days as well. Ugh and Teppei, I can’t even think properly anymore.

“Haruhi!!! Haruhi!!! OI WHERE ARE YOU!!! EVERYONE’S WORRIED ABOUT YOU!!! COME ON!!! SHOW UP!!!”
I stopped singing when I heard a male shouting from somewhere still far. It is not possible that the man’s a stranger since he knows my name. Is it someone from the team?
Then as if on cue, the figure emerged from the dark corners of the forest and revealed the man to be my bestfriend, Izuki. “Oi Haruhi, this isn’t funny!!! Come on, everyone’s getting worried about you!!!”
I scooted farther from where he could not see me above this thing. And yes, I am now atop of a tree, trying to hide myself in here. But damn, it was friggin cold tonight, ugh it’s winter ugh damn life.
“Haruhi … I know you’re somewhere in here… You love ponds, right? Please come out now…”
Actually half of myself tells me to go and show myself, the other half says the contrary like: “Make the man worry it is payback time!!!” I mean why should I? He just keeps on repeating that everyone’s worried, blablabla…
“And I am also fucking worried so get the hell out of here now!!!”
Of course he would say he is wor- WAIT WHAT?! He is worried? Wait, why am I surprised, isn’t he supposed so, since we’re still bestfriends? Why am I making myself believe that we have a chance outside being best of friends?
Izuki POV
“And I am also fucking worried so get the hell out of here now!!!”
There!!! I finally admitted it! I’ve said it! I know she’s somewhere near and she heard me loud and clear… I mean she’s my bestfriend and I am really supposed to worry about her, right? Ugh here I am again with the “we’re bestfriends so obviously…” thing. Why can’t I man up and say the right words? Ok maybe I should try in my own way…
I sat near the edge of the pond then…
“You know Haruhi, these past few days, it was always you and Kiyoshii hanging around together…” I paused for a while and breathe deep. “And I felt something because of that…. I think I was… and still… jealous…”
“He made you laugh, he made you feel appreciate, he helps you out every time to which you returned gladly by doing the same thing back.”
“I then felt envious”
“Then this past few days here in camp, I dunno if it was on purpose but you seem to ignore me. Engrossing yourself with your archery practice and advance studies. And there’s one thing I’ve realized.”
“I always long for you.”
“I’ve missed your care, your very presence, your patience, your lectures, your laugh, your smile, your movements, your cutesy manners, your cooking, your shenanigans, your…. I can’t enumerate everything but the point is, for the past years we’ve been together through ups and down, I realized that…
Even how badly I deny it, how many times I say, “I only see you as my bestfriend”. But when I saw that you we’re cared, made happy by other men… I felt pain inside of me… Then thank goodness I realized that…
I love you all this time, Haruhi. Please forgive me Haruhi and please…. Please give me a chance…”
Haruhi POV
W-wait, WAIT!!!! Just wait the fuck up!!! Am I hearing the right thing?
I love you all this time, YN. Please forgive me Haruhi and please…. Please give me a chance…”
Then I heard silent whimpers and when I looked back at him, he has his arms desperately wiping his….
TEARS?
Owh gosh, what a sight. But damn why am I even crying as well? Maybe I really need to go down this damned tree and face him.
“OI IZUKI!!! ARE YOU WRONG IN THE HEAD OR SOMETHING? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING?” I screamed at him, still atop of the tree.
“H-Haruhi!!! Why are you up there, that’s dangerous!!!”
“BAKA! I KNOW WHAT I AM- WHOAH FUCK!!!!” I slipped on a thin branch which broke it and I was just now hanging on in another thin branch, which would probably break any moment!!!
“HARUHI!!!!” Izuki screamed as he run closer to the bottom of the tree!!! “Let go, NOW!!!”
What the heck is he thinking? I’ll probably be disabled or something if I do! “Idiot! Why the heck should I- whoah!!!” And then the branch broke.
I’ve readied myself for the fall as I close my eyes so tight. Then what I felt was far from the cold hard ground, but something… soft? I opened my eyes and saw a crying… “Oi Izuki!!! Are you okay!!! Did you break any bone!!! Oi don’t just cry there! Answer me!!!” yeah my bestfriend’s crying.
He suddenly got up and hugged me sooooo tight. We’re in a position where I was sitting on his lap and he is hugging me so tight, it was suffocating yet it felt so good at the same time. He buried his face on my exposed shoulder-neck and let all the tears pour in there.
“Sorry… sorry… sorry…”
And then I didn’t even realized that I was also crying already, I gave him a genuine close eyed smile as I hugged him back, which anyway surprised him.
“Izuko no BAKA!!! Are you wrong in your head? Why did you caught me? You might end up being injured before Winter Cup you know?” But deep inside you’re: “OMFG WAT AM I DOING I AM HUGGING MY BFF LOL IDEK BRB DYING.
“I’d rather save you Haruhi than let you take the pain… That is because…” He inched the distance between our already close face, let’s say 6 inches because I have my imaginary ruler with me.
“Haruhi …” O gosh it’s just 4 inches…
“I…” OMFG dbfkjsdbfldf 2 inches…
“Realized that….” 1 frigin’ inch!!! I am really gonna die, wait, I brushed my teeth an hour before this, so… ARGH why am I thinking stuff like this?
“I loved you all this time Haruhi, I LOVE YOU…” He said in a sweet whisper tone that sent all my blood up to my ears and face.
“O-Oi Izuki wat the heck are you s-hmnnnnn!!!”
He sealed the gap and at the same time shut me up by giving me a FRIGGIN KISS, OMFG IS THIS REAL LIFE OR IS THIS FANTASY? SOMEONE WAKE ME UP!
What woke me up is when he freed his other arm around my body and his hand made its way to gently cup and caress my cheek, tilting it lightly to the side.
(A/N: Guyzsss I dunno if I can write LEMONS in mah one shots, but for now definitely NO. I am limiting myself to KISSING only LOL WTF XD)
Out of instinct I responded to the acti by resting my elbows on his shoulder, playfully running my fingers through his soft and sleek jet black hair.
I slighty moaned as his kiss KINDA got intense as I felt some little pressure on his lip movement. I broke from the kiss to catch my breath, but when I did…
“Fireflies…”
Izuki stared at me then at the fireflies, then buried his face again on his favourite spot for the season, my neck. “Neh Haruhi, did you know that when you made a wish at the fireflies, it would give what your heart long for?”
“Not fond of those wishy wish thing since the wish in the well thing didn’t worked for me…”
He gently held my hand and pulled me again closer to him, when I just buried my face to his chest. “I never ever need to wish at the fireflies, because I’ve found what my heart longs for in your existence Haruhi … I really love you, and I am never planning to let you go.
That night is when finally, the unrequited, ignored, always denied love was returned by two persons that would surely treasure each other like no one else can do to them…
Because at the first place…

So how was it? REALLY LONG, right? Hahhaha I dunno if this is even a One-shot or a short story, hahah I just got really jumpy while writing this. I’ve made this after a full 8 hours of sleep, and I am really happy. Since because when I started my college days, I am lucky enough to get a full 6 hours of friggin sleep or nap, I guess? XD
