ERIC'S POV

Despite busying myself with eating the apple pie Charlie's friends made my mind kept lingering over the fact that they were both upstairs. Alone.

My wolf didn't feel particularly comfortable with this information. All he wanted to do was barge in there and keep her for myself and maybe throw in a punch or two. But I knew that couldn't happen. Not until I find out what is going on between us. I needed to research and ask around about werewolves having human mates. Was I the only one with this situation? To have a mate that knew nothing about my world, about the other half of me.

There had to be an explanation as to why I was paired with her. Fate wouldn't have done this for no reason. I just had to find why and how.

"Hey Mr. Moody stop attacking my pie!" Jade hollered from her side of the dinning table, pulling me out of my thoughts.

They all were watching me with amused grins. How long was I out of it? Looking at their stacked empty plates in the middle of the table, I can assume I was distracted for a while.

"Sorry" I muttered, pushing my plate away from me. I wasn't hungry anymore.

"What's got your nose flaring?" Jay asked curiously, glancing at my no doubt agitated look. Images of Landon and Charlie hugging floating through my head once again.

"It's just- I can't stop- Nothing" I ended up spitting out. I realised they wouldn't understand what I was going on considering they were just humans. Just like Charlie was. Human. I've never despised a word so much in my life until now.

I saw Lacey whisper into her boyfriend's ear, making Jay raise his eyebrow at me with another one of their similar all-knowing grins.

Chuckling and shaking his head, "What do you think about Landon?" he asked unexpectedly.

Feeling the uncontrollable emotions flowing through me, my hands clenched just like they did whenever Landon had his arm on her. "He's fine" I said through clenched teeth. I couldn't stop these feelings. My wolf truly hated the thought of another male around our mate.

"I see" was all he said, giving me that smile. He couldn't really understand.

"What do you think about Charlie?" Hailey piped up, her face giddy like she knew something I clearly didn't.

Scrunching up my face, I didn't understand the question. What did I think about Charlie? What didn't I think about Charlie. Ever since I felt the sparks between us she's been on mind constantly. I couldn't push her out. I couldn't distract myself from her for more than 5 minutes.

"She's-"

"I hope you guys saved us some of that" speak of the devil and she'll appear. Charlie had popped up from behind me, jolting me. My answer dying in my throat as I saw her go around us to pick up a plate for herself and plonking down in the seat beside me.

I felt the hairs on my arms raise, as I felt the pull.

I've heard about this from my parents. When you first found your mate the attraction and sparks were instantaneous. You felt drawn to each other, to accept one another. Though for those who didn't exactly agree with the matching would feel this invisible pull whenever they were near. The longer they resisted the stronger the pull would become.

My parents at first had hated each other, over a petty argument they had in their earlier teenage years so they were quick to neglect their mating instincts. They had told me they lasted roughly two months before they gave in. They had tried with all their might to ignore their feelings but as each new day came, another wave of emotions and pull brought them together. They settled everything between them and fell in love quite quickly.

"Are you going to eat that?" I heard her ask from beside me, her hands already reaching to grab it. I shook my head, my mouth seeming to go dry. Reaching to grab the plate as well to make it easier for her, my fingers skimmed over hers. I saw her shiver and suddenly felt pleased. She may not know about us but she still felt everything that we were meant to feel. This situation wasn't completely dysfunctional.

"Thanks" she whispered before busying herself with stuffing the food in her mouth.

A muffled cough caught my attention. Hailey was wiggling her eyebrows at me.

Turning my attention away from the nut job I stared at the male that had sat in the spare seat in front of me. I felt myself tense as I remembered who he actually was.

Landon Peters. Alpha of his England pack. One of the most respected and powerful packs in that country. Every alpha tends to know each other, it was just a thing. What had messed with my head was the fact that he was actually here. A strong alpha taking an aeroplane ride to our side of the world. For no particular reason besides the fact that he knows Charlie and her odd bunch of friends. He hadn't even called or informed my pack of his arrival.

My father was going to have a field day once I brought him back home.

"So when are we leaving?" Landon asked, his spoon hanging out of his mouth. He was bizarrely more laid back than I expected. He almost seemed like a teenager who fit perfectly into our lives. I couldn't see how he ran a pack so fiercely.

I glanced at the red head beside me who had resorted to licking her plate for any extra crumbs before making up my mind. "Now, I guess" I answered shrugging. The quicker I separated these two the better my wolf would feel even if that meant leaving from her side.

"More left over pie for me then" Charlie whispered to herself, a grin lighting her face.

"Oh you mean the pie I just ate?" Landon asked innocently, his grin lighting his face as he still had crust smeared all across his mouth.

Was he really an alpha?

"Bitch!" Charlie yelled slamming her fork down. The force surprisingly shook the table. She glared at him as he continued finishing the last piece off.

"Take him Eric. Get him out of my sight" she grumbled to me, her arms now crossed with an adorable pouty face. I suppressed a grin.

"Let's go before she decides to eat you" I told Landon. He nodded his head in understanding, pushing his chair back and standing up. I followed suit.

"If he molests or takes advantage of you just let me know. I'll make sure to do some damage" I saw her lean over to Landon, not trying to hide the threat. I rolled my eyes, reaching out to flick her on her forehead.

Everything had paused as she blinked at me for a few seconds; letting the action process through her head. And just like that, she blurred. Running so fast I hardly saw her jumping on my back. The force of her jump had me rocking on my feet before I steadied myself. She was a fast bugger. I had to remember that.

"That was incredibly rude" she spoke into my ear, sending a new wave of tingles down my body. She seemed to have felt my body shiver as she begun poking my body from whatever angle she could. Her laugh melodious in the foyer making me forget about the world around us.

"Charlie, leave the poor guy alone" I heard him say, before I felt her weight being lifted off of me. I turned to see Landon setting her down. It took everything in me to fit down the urge to rip his arms off of her. But I knew what he had done was for the better. I nodded my head in appreciation despite the joyous feeling she momentarily brought me. That moment felt right.

"Fine, I'll see you tomorrow" Charlie chirped as she pushed us out the door and slammed it in our faces. Pretty sure it was less than a cm away from my nose.

"She's so weird" he chuckled from beside me.

Without the presence of Charlie, I suddenly felt the strong need to punch the guy in the face. Without her as a distraction my mind relented in the fact that they seemed to be so close to each other. Too close for my liking and the fact that I couldn't do anything about it annoyed me. How the hell are they even friends? He was definitely out of school and a werewolf!

We got into my car in a tense silence. We both knew what was going to come. Landon was going to be having a heavy discussion about his dismissal on informing us about his arrival. Who knows how my father will react to this whole situation, considering he has to be worrying about his beta being in hospital. Jake was next in line. He was appointed as a fill in, despite his age. He was "mature enough" as my dad convinced.

"Are you trying to kill us?" his voice woke me. I hadn't been expecting him to open his mouth and my hand steered the car slightly onto the next lane before I quickly straightened us up.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, your driving recklessly. Pretty sure that was the second red light you just ran through" he filled me in, his voice light.

Giving him a sideways glance, I took him in. He had a concerned expression, his hand gripping the side door. Even I had to admit that he was good looking for a guy. No wonder Charlie stuck onto him like glue.

"Sorry" I muttered, refusing to look at him again.

"Is this about Charlie?" he asked gently, almost whispering her name as if I was going to explode at the mention of it.

"Charlie? No. What are you going on about?" I asked, the words gritted. I couldn't help myself. The thought of them together flashed through my mind once again, and about why they went upstairs by themselves for so long. Who knows what they did up there.

"Hey listen man, I love her-"

"-do not finish those words" I growled out, my wolf taking over control for a few seconds. My eyes flashing yellow in the rear mirror. Letting out a huff of air, I felt in control again, releasing my steel-like grip on the wheel.

"I love her like a best friend Eric. You don't have to worry about me" he finished, keeping a steady eye on me.

As a best friend?

"Best friends?" I couldn't help but repeat. For someone who was unsure about the fact that I was paired with a human mate I was sure being possessive over her. I honestly didn't mean it. It's just every time I thought of the pair together I felt the strong urge to tear him apart. You know, just a primal instinct to protect her, to protect what is rightfully mine. The wolf spirits paired us together, not Landon and her together.

"Well now that I confirmed my suspicions, I wouldn't dare steal another alpha's mate" he chuckled, smirking at me like he knew everything.

I sighed, leaning back in my seat, keeping my attention steadily on the road.

"How did you know?" I asked defeated, these emotions were tiring me out. What was I? A girl?

"If looks could kill, I would have disintegrated the moment I stepped inside that waiting room in the hospital; plus, you almost went rogue on me just then" he added.

"It's obvious aye?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Only to people who have eyes" he answered, laughing again.

"I'm sorry, I can't seem to control it.

It doesn't help that she knows nothing about this life."

A moment passed between us as I entered my street, parking the car into the driveway. Placing my hand on the handle to open the door, he began to speak again.

"Just give her time. It'll all work out in the end."
