SSA Jennifer Jareau 'JJ' sat at the wheel of the black SUV, each spare seat was filled with members of her behaviours analyse team. The air was cool and crisp, the sky dark as they drove in silence each team members eyes following the road entrapped in their own thoughts, doctor Spencer Reid sat shrunken in the corner next to agents Derek Morgan and Emily Prentiss.
Beneath his clenched fists was a photo of him that had been taken by a stranger who had been constantly sending him threatening notes, unwanted photographs of Reid and this strangers victims. To worsen Reid's already evident guilt this killer would blame Reid 'for not catching him' which had only added to his stress levels and encouraged Reid to have self doubt.
"Look Reid, he won't attack you while we're here, it's too risky" Morgan tried to reassure his friend throwing in his toothy grin, but Spencer's mind was in overdrive he couldn't think straight, he couldn't not think. His ear length brown hair was messy and hung loosely at his ears and he was fitted in a crisp white shirt with black work pants, and bags under his eyes.
"Maybe I shouldn't be here, I'm only endangering the team" he muttered his voice filled with fear and sadness. Morgan sighed this had been the third time this trip he had bought that up, and Aaron Hotchner the teams leader who was sitting in the front seat twisted around so he was facing the doctor.
"Reid, noth..." but he was cut off when bright lights flashed to the side of the car, and rammed full force into the SUV, causing it to roll down the hill with its agents inside.
Smoke and glass surrounded and filled the damaged car, the atmosphere was quiet as everyone inside tried to figure out what happened and let the shock slowly fade. "Is everyone alright" JJ asked her hand wiping away the blood that was running from her nose adrenaline pumping through her, there were small yeps and moans from the agents letting each other know that they were ok and small chatter ensued as the team tried to work out what had happened, JJ tried to open her door but it didn't take her long to figure out she was stuck in there.
"Where's Reid?" Morgan asked, his voice came out tough but JJ could hear the fear behind it, twisting in her seat JJ came face to face with Morgan who looked battered and bruised and was clutching his shoulder, blood seeping out from above his eye while Prentiss who had blood and glass throughout her thick dark hair was searching frantically in the car for an indication of where Reid might have gone.
"He was right here?" Prentiss murmured as she unclipped her seatbelt causing her to wince in pain "nobody move" Hotch said as he tried to pull the jammed seatbelt away from his body, "Hotch! Reid isn't here, he's not here" Prentiss's voice had gone rather high as she was trying push the door open.
Morgan leaned over and tried to help Prentiss open the door as his was clearly dented in. JJ who managed to get her belt off, used her elbow to smash away the remaining glass keeping her inside the fallen car. "No he's not, Reid isn't here he's not in the car" Prentiss almost yelled as she struggled against the belt.
Now free from the belt, JJ looked back to see that in fact Prentiss was right there space where the doctor had been moments before was now empty, window shards were covered in blood causing the blonde to wince, leaning over to help Hotch JJ tried to fiddle with his belt, until she heard a strangled cough coming a few meters down from the car.
JJ looked out the shattered window, to see a figure lying there, she looked at Hotch with her blue eys and he nodded "go, I got this" and with that the blonde crawled out her window, landing on the ground with a thud, as soon as she stood up she felt a wave dizziness escape over her and she tried to regain balance by leaning on the car.
Another cry came out, and staggering over there JJ made her way over to the fallen body her body freezing at the sight of her best friend. Spencer Reid was laying on his back coughing up blood, with a large tree branch sticking through him, blood was all over his limp stomach and his face was pale.
"J-JJ" he stuttered between staggered breaths as his eyes lit up at the sight of the blonde, he always liked. "Spence" she whispered bending down besides his limp body taking his hand in hers "I-I" he struggled for breath and JJ shushed him, feeling tears well up in her eyes at the sight of her fallen friend.
"Hey, just relax" she murmured pressing her forehead against hers, she gave his limp hand a squeeze and his mouth curled upwards, "I-I lo" but he was cut off once again when the blonde wiped tears from her face with her free hand, before rubbing her thumb on his cheek "Spence it's ok, we have all the time in the world." He nodded giving her hand a light almost unnoticeable squeeze and then he shut his eyes his head rolling to the side.
Something inside of JJ snapped, and she gently put her fingers to his neck, letting the rhythm of his heartbeat soothe her worst fears, there was a grunt and through the blurriness of her tears JJ saw Hotch pulling himself from the car, Derek doing the same and the pair gently pulled Prentiss out of the car.
Prentiss hobbled over to the fallen body and JJ who was crouched beside him, while Morgan and Hotch crawled up the hill, ignoring their injuries in hope to get help. In what felt like hours, ambulances finally approached the fallen team, it was like music to JJ's ears as she gave Spencer's hand another squeeze and whispering it was gonna be ok.
Prentiss who had his other hand was gazing at his impaled body, listening to his shallow breaths as he struggled to stay alive, everything inside of him was fighting but JJ feared his body couldn't stand this much longer.
Bright lights filled the waiting room where Prentiss, JJ and Morgan sat all with glum faces while Hotch paced back and forth. "I heard what happened" a small voice croaked and everyone turned there heads to see Penelope Garcia standing there, her eyes red from crying and her hands shaking.
"Shh Baby Girl" Morgan called as he pulled the smaller blonde into a hug, slightly wincing when she touched his arm that had been out in a cast due to a breakage. Garcia sobbed against his chest, everyone knew it came with the territory and dying in the field is how most cops go, but no one can prepare them for the loss of there friend.
JJ, who had been given a loose and baggy jumper sat back in her chair, watching Morgan comfort Garcia while Emily sat with her head buried in her hands, it was times like this JJ would have Spencer with her and he would put an arm over her shoulder or tell her it would be ok, but every time she looked to her side she was greeted with the reality that she might never see him again.
"Jennifer" a voice called out and the blonde twisted her head to see her husband standing there with a worried expression "Will" she murmured and fell into his embrace, he wrapped his arms around her and she put her head on his shoulder feeling tears come again.
"Where's Henry" she whispered and Will gave her a tight squeeze "Shelly offered to take him, so he and Jason could have a play date tomorrow" Will said, his accent thick.
The pair stood in an embrace a little longer, and when a doctor strode out, JJ felt her heart race at the sight of blood on his surgical clothes, he looked towards the already miserable team and his face fell slightly.
"I-I-I'm sorry he never made it off the gurney" the surgeon said before speeding off, clearly horrified. Hotch cursed before he slammed his fists against the wall and stormed out of the hospital, Garcia went to full blown tears with Morgan clutching her tightly but his eyes were watering.
Prentiss sat there in shock as tears escaped her body, and her nose began to bleed but she just sat there motionless still in her vest, but for JJ it felt like her whole world had stopped she couldn't see straight, she felt herself tipping and Wills hands pulled her close preventing her from injuring herself further.
"He's, He's really gone" JJ said, as if she was trying to deny it, "I'm so sorry J" Will muttered as he pulled his wife close feeling her tears escape down her cheek and onto his jacket.
-2 Days Later-
JJ clutched the red rose in her hand as she walked forwards watching as Spencer's coffin was carried by officers, her blue eyes were glistening and her eyes were still red from all the crying she had done, Will had her hand as they strode forward.
Morgan was holding Garcia's hand and the two walked slowly as if they were ready to take off any second and start running away from all this, Hotch's hand was in Prentiss's and his other hand held Jacks hand, every single one of there faces was red and broken, JJ glanced at her son who had been incredibly fond of Spencer, Henry's eyes was watering as he clutched onto Wills shoulder, his eyes met his Mothers and he looked at her for reassurance but she looked away, that was something she couldn't give.
"Spencer Reid was a good agent, he was a doctor someone who helped many people. He was the kind of person that would listen to you and try to help even he couldn't, Reid never left my side he helped me through everything, he didn't deserve this, he didn't deserve this."
Through his whole speech Morgan was breaking, struggling to read the next line, as Morgan stepped down from the crowd, everyone walked up to the young doctors coffin placing roses or sunflowers on it.
As darkness approached the sky, everyone began making there way into the reception, but JJ stayed back waiting for everyone to clear up "You coming?" Will asked his miserable wife and she gave him a nod "just a second" and he nodded "I am right here if you need me" he said before turning to follow the abundance of guests Henry clutched to his chest.
With her breathing suddenly becoming raged, JJ approached the coffin and placed her hand on the smooth wood "I promise I will find out who did this to you" she whispered pressing her forehead against the coffin.
There were footsteps behind her and reacting on instinct she spun around to see Derek Morgan standing there, his arms linked in front of him as he stared up at the blonde, blue eyes meeting brown.
"He loved you, you know" Derek said finally breaking the silence, "what do you mean?" JJ asked feeling the tears start welling up again.
"I mean" Morgan said stepping closer to the broken blonde "I mean, he never stopped since the day he saw you, he loved you everything about you, you may not have noticed but everyone else did, that's what he was trying to tell you that night" He almost chocked on the word night and then he left the blonde alone with her thoughts.
Even though the news had been surprise, deep deep down JJ knew.
"Where am I" a dry cracked voice called out as he the young man struggled against the machines restraining him. As he turned he felt a sharp pain through his stomach an he winced in a very girly way "ouch" he stuttered.
"Ahh" a nurse said walking in, her eyes lighting up to see her patient was alive "nice to see your alive Dr Reid."
