Jareth's POV

Carter walked Jareth to the Hufflepuff common room and left. Jareth was silent. He couldn't think, couldn't breathe, couldn't feel anything but pain and an indescribable sadness.

He walked into the common room numbly and saw the window open, but he didn't care anymore, so he went straight to his dorm, closing the door behind him. The other boys were asleep, so he grabbed his books and school work and left.

He went into the common room and sat in a corner by a window. He looked out at the full moon and sighed. He turned back to his work and stared at the parchment.

He felt himself choking up, but no tears fell. He felt numb.

His cheek stung from where Carter had hit him. He knew it was going to bruise, and he would have to make up some story of how he'd fallen or something.

He couldn't focus. All he could think about was how stupid he was.

For making Carter angry, for letting Carter hurt him, for being the cause of every problem.

He stood and gathered his work, then went to his dorm. He put everything away and sat on his bed.

He climbed into bed and hugged a pillow to his chest, trying to fall asleep.

Jareth forgot to meet Carter that night.
