The world can be so scary for a child, even more so in the night, when things we might not be accustomed to are lurking in the shadows of your mind, taunting you, playing with you. The darkness feeds on paranoia, twisting otherwise normal objects into unsightly creatures to make you jump and hide. A set of wide, E/C eyes experienced this phenomenon as they skittered back and forth between the pale blue walls around her, as if waiting for some monster to pop out and scare her. The young girl sat, curled up, in her bed, the striped blanket held to her chin as her fingers anxiously twisted the fabric to settle her frayed nerves. Thunder clashed, chasing the lightning right outside the window beside her bed, the rain cheering them on by clapping against the glass, only frightening the poor girl further back into the pillows. At every loud sound, Y/N flinched and shut her eyes, trembling while hiding in her knees. She couldn't stand storms like these. Little raindrops, sure. She loved playing in gentle rain, but it was the noisy ones that always set her nerves on-edge. She was scared,

Scared of the dark.

Scared of the storm,

Of the sounds,

Of her closet,

Of whatever might lie beneath her bed.

Thankfully, she was not in complete darkness. Her hero of a nightlight gave the cold colors of the room a warm, yellowish hue to ease her frightened soul. It helped, even if just a little. As for anything that might be hiding in the dark corners of her room, there was not much else the child could do but keep herself away from them. As if to tease her, the house would creak and groan when greeted by the harsh winds outside, making her feel like she'd be blown away along with it at any moment.

What is the poor thing to do when she's so helpless against these fears? As much as she would like to jump off the bed and run to her parents' room, she would receive no such comfort from them, since they were currently in the house. After having put the girl to bed, certain she had fallen asleep, they had snuck out for a late night date to the movie theater to watch a new action film that came out. Unfortunately, she was rudely awakened by the sudden storm nearly an hour after they both had left. Even if they were home, she wasn't sure she had the courage to step off the bed and run to their room.
