Just by putting on a smile

I don't wanna be afraid

I wanna wake up feeling beautiful today

And know that I'm okay

‘Cause everyone's perfect in unusual ways

So you see, I just wanna believe in me

I'm quickly finding out

I'm not about to break down

Not today

I guess I always knew

That I had all the strength to make it through

Not gonna be afraid

I'm gonna wake up feeling beautiful today

And know that I'm okay

‘Cause everyone's perfect in unusual ways

You see, now

Now I believe in me

Now I believe in me…” I strummed the final note on my guitar and wiped away a tear.

I looked towards the front row and saw Anthony smiling.

I smiled. ''Thank you…”

“Lyra…” suddenly James’ lips were on mine.

“So I’m guessing I did okay?” I smiled.

“You always do way better than okay and then some,” James smiled.

I hugged him. “Thank you.”

“MY EYES!”

“Shut up Tyler,” I rolled my eyes.

“Meh… you were okay… I guess…” Krissy said.

“Go away Krissy.” I glared.

“Well then!” she huffed and walked off.

“That was amazing Lyra…” Melody told me.

“Thanks… you were pretty amazing yourself – I mean I can totally see you and Alex together some day…” I told her.

She blushed.

“What was that about me and Melody?” Alex piped up.

“Oh look, Lyra it’s time for your second performance!” Melody was blushing so much her face could have been mistaken for an overgrown tomato.

“Right… well Cece – you ready?” I asked.

Cece was starring in my play – it was about a girl who fell into a well and drowned in her own tears. [A/N: yes this is the play Jade did in Wok Stars]

YAAAAAY! IT’S CECE TIME!” Cece laughed.

She had an infectious laugh, and eventually all eight of us were laughing – yes, including Tyler.

“Let’s do this!” I grinned.

I watched from backstage as my play unfolded – just as I had wanted it to – it couldn’t have gone any better.

I looked towards Sikowitz and Principle Matthews, who were both smiling – I felt a flutter of hope inside.

“That was great Lyra,” James smiled.

“How’d I do?” Cece asked, coming off stage after the curtains had closed.

“You were great!” I grinned.

YAAAAAAY!” Cece laughed and bounced off.

“Was she wearing her Jupiter boots earlier?” James asked, looking puzzled.

“Nope.” I replied.

“Then how-“

“That is a question I’ve long ago stopped asking, myself…”

“Right…”

~*~

“So?” I asked, looking at Principle Matthews.

I had been called to his office that Monday morning to be told the news regarding my scholarship.

“I must say, your performance was outstanding and your play was terrific…” he started.

“Thanks… what about my scholarship?” I asked.

“Well I think that what I saw yesterday proved that you do deserve your scholarship.”

A smile broke out on my face. “Seriously?! Thank you so much!”

I left the room, feeling elated.

“So?” Melody asked.

“I got my scholarship,” I grinned.

“YAY!” Melody grinned, and hugged me.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“… sorry…” she said.

“You know-”

“SINJIN GO AWAY!” we snapped.

“Going…”

Don’t worry Scarlette… I’m going to help you… whatever it takes.
