My heart stopped as I witnessed Eugenia cutting off his hair with a pocket knife with one swoop. Mother Gothel screeched in rage and Raynor was motionless. Mother Gothel aged rapidly and lost the strenghth that kept her balanced. She ended up falling out the window and dispersed into dust.
I dropped my knife and rushed to their sides, ripping my shirt to stop the bleeding. Raynor touched his short hair while tears streamed down his face. "Prince Raynor, I need you to get a grip. Snap out of it! She-"
I cut myself off as I felt her skin run cold and her pulse stopped. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."
Prince Raynor hugged her body, crying a river. "Don't go, please. Come back. I love you."
I got up and moved to sit on the stairs. I buried my head into my hands to hold back tears. My stomach felt sick and my head was filled with a jumble of thoughts. My entire body felt numb and my throat felt like it was closing in on itself.
I messed up big time. There was no way to fix this.
Raynor's crying stopped and through the darkness I could see it get brighter. I looked up and saw yellow lights swirling around the two. The light seeped into Eugenia's wound and color returned to her skin.
She groaned as she got up and winced. "What a horrible nap."
Raynor pulled her into his embrace and now cried tears of happiness. I had no idea what happened but I'm taking it. I walked over to the lovers and they looked up at me. "I guess I wasn't much help as I thought I was going to be. But I can still escort you out.
"That would be nice. Thank you, Knight Orion." Raynor wiped his face and stood up. We crawled back through the passageway and left the tower for good. The sun was just rising and the birds were chirping. Eugenia didn't have much strength in her legs so I carried her on my back. We managed to get back on the trail and followed it until we saw the bridge that stretched across the water to the town.
Several people were huddled outside, discussing something serious. Raynor ran up to grab their attention. They scrambled to lead him back to the palace and rush to assist us. A strong guard carried Eugenia for me back to the castle as I followed. A guard noticed the gash on my side stood close, ready to help me if I collapse or bleed out. It really just looked a lot worse than it felt.
We entered through the large palace doors swiftly and the guard led me to their medical room. I was sat on a white bed and the guard told me that the nurse was attending Raynor and Eugenia. I told him not to worry about it.
I saw in the empty room alone and examined my cut. I poked it a little which was a huge mistake. I winced and gasped as it stung and began to bleed again.
"Rion!" Several voices called out to me. The princes crowded around me, relief on all their faces. "Thank god you're okay." "Are you hurt anywhere?" "How did you get that cut?" "You have a six pack?"
Snowen grabbed some gauze and ointments off the shelf and sat next to me to help my cut. I felt really claustrophobic and exhausted all of a sudden. "I'll tell you guys everything later. Could you just let me rest. It's been a really crazy morning."
They all respected my wishes and left me to rest. Snowen finished patching me up and but the supplies back.
"You're an idiot. A stubborn, selfless idiot." He began to reprimand me. "If the cut was any deeper you could be dead right now."
I pulled the white sheets over my body and snuggled up in bed. "Tell me about it later, Snow. I'm tired."
He stopped organizing the shelves for a second. "Snow? You haven't called me that since we were children. Do you finally remember?"
"Vaguely. Don't make a big deal out of it."
My curt response irritated him. He leaned over and flicked my forehead. I bolted up from the bed and rubbed the spot. "Ow! What the hell?"
His strong arms wrapped around me and held me close. "Why am I in love with an idiot?"
It was useless to squirm away so I sat there, letting him get his hug in. I patted his back. "Because you're an idiot too."
He pulled back and scowled at me but his dark brown eyes shined like they were really happy. He ruffled my shaggy hair and left the room. I lied back down and closed my eyes. I was almost about to fall asleep when I heard the door open again. I pretended to stay asleep just in case it was the nurse. I didn't want them to feel guilty for "waking me up."
I heard the steps get close to my bed and the bed dipped slightly. Something warm and soft touched my lips briefly before retreating to kiss my forehead. "I'm really glad you're back safe and sound, Rion." his deep voice whispered. The bed rose up again as the weight was lifted.
The man left in a hurry and I opened my eyes.
What the hell, Mun-Wah? You too?
