I began my trek through the thick forest, touching any rocks and branches that could reveal a secret. I noticed that the atmosphere was awfully quiet. I couldn't hear anything except for my own footsteps. Not even crickets chirped.
I stopped walking for a second to try to pick up something. I needed to hear something. The wind, a stomp, or even a scream would do.
There was a roar of rushing water somewhere. Not like a river but like a waterfall. Pinpointing the direction of the sound I began walking again. My steps were slow and quiet so I could hear the waterfall. The sound got louder as I walked along.
The waterfall sound came from behind a cliff. Vines covered up the wall and I touched them. I was shocked to find my hand went right through them. I moved them to the side to find a tall tower and waterfall right in the middle of the land. This is what Eugenia said she found.
I put all my faith into this place being the location for the missing prince and bride and ran forward. There was no door to enter. The only opening I could see was the big window at the very top of the tower. I circled the building, trying to find at least a climbing spot. It was then I noticed large rocks thrown onto the ground and a small hole leading into the tower.
How convenient!
The space was small and cramped but with enough shimming I reached the end. A light illuminated the sides of the trap door and I could hear chains being pulled. Muffled screaming chilled my bones and a mad voice boomed.
"How dare you! I raised you, fed you, taught you right from wrong! I go away to gather ingredients so I could be a good mother only to find you gone. And for what? For this criminal? She could've killed you or turned you into a slave! I loved you! I'm your mother!"
My blood boiled at the outrageous argument. But I couldn't just pop up right now. I had to wait for the right moment.
"Felia Rider, you stole my little flower away from me. Without her I would be dead. It would be better if you were just gone, don't you agree?"
I could hear the slice of skin and louder screams. I couldn't take it anymore. I punched the trap door open and hopped out. Eugenia was bleeding out on the wooden floor with an old lady clutching a knife. She rolled her eyes. "Oh great. Another one."
I rushed towards her, trying to smack the knife out of her hand but she was quick for looking so old. She swung her arm and I felt a sting on my left side. It didn't feel too deep but it still hurt like hell. I kicked her down and saw the knife go flying out of her hand. I pinned her down briefly.
Her nails aimed to scratch me but my knife against her neck stopped her. I was ready to put even more pressure on it before Prince Raynor shouted. "No! Please stop!"
I looked up but my knife still threaten to cut the hag. Tears stained his face and he shook with fear. "I'll go with you. Just promise to not hurt anyone else and let me heal Eugenia. Please. I promise that I'll be good. Please, mother."
"Mother Gothel, if you take him away I-" Eugenia tried to respond but coughed before she could finish. Mother Gothel pushed me out of the way to unlock Prince Raynor's chains. He rushed over to Eugenia as I stood to the side, ready to strike the lady if she tried anything funny.
Even then there was no way in hell I was going to let her take him away. Raynor sat by Eugenia's side and she grabbed his hair.
"Raynor, don't do this. Run while you have the chance."
"I'm not letting you die. It's the least I can do for giving me so much." He cried.
She painfully laughed. "I knew you were going to say that. That's why I'm not giving you a choice."
