going to abandoned places with friends are fun, but going to an abandoned place amidst the apocalypse is no fun. you can never know if the place is bombarded with walkers or even raiders.

"carl, we have been walking for ages. when are we going to arrive?" i impatiently ask my best friend as he drags me along the side of a street. "just be patient. we're almost there." i roll my eyes and mumble, 'but you said that nearly an hour ago.'

"and tell me why are we going to an abandoned building in the middle of a fucking zombie apocalypse?"

carl has been talking all about this empty building that he saw while he was on a run. he says that he wants to check it out during another run, but rick won't let him.

"because it'll be cool. i promise."

"yeah because getting eaten alive by walkers is totally cool."

carl playfully punches my arm and i push him in return, making him stumble a bit. he turns back to face me and looks at me with shock. "hey!" he pushes me playfully before tickling me in return. i howl with laughter until my stomach starts to hurt and tears are rolling down my cheeks. "o-okay, okay, that's e-enough," i manage to say in between laughs. "you win!" carl tickles me one last time as a final roar of laughter escapes my lips. i regain my posture and slap his arm.

"ow! that hurts!"

i let out a giggle before walking ahead of him. "c'mon. let's get moving," i hear carl mumble under his breath before catching up behind me.

for what felt like hours (when it was actually just a couple minutes), we finally reach the abandoned building. carl and i exchange excited glances before entering.

as we enter, the room is dark and dust is flying everywhere. both of us cough the dust from our lungs and take out our flashlight, illuminating parts of the room. the gray-painted walls are covered with various graffitis. in the middle of the room, there is a round crumbling reception desk and behind it, there is a sign of a company plastered on the wall.

"this is an office," carl says in surprise then flashes his flashlight somewhere else. he flashes a flight of stairs leading to the second floor. "ah! there's a second floor. let's go there, (y/n)!"

a cool breeze passes by and i wrap my arms around myself, my heart beating rapidly inside my chest. not going to lie, i have a bad feeling about this place, but i brush it off and continue exploring.

the second floor of the building is full of empty and desks covered in heavy dust. papers are scattered everywhere: on the floor, on the desks, and on some desks.
