Deal with the devil

On the ride home J was quite. I tried to prod him about why he had brought me there and what significance it had to his deceased parents but the conversation wasn't going anywhere. I knew that it was down to me to somehow retrieve the answers.

When we got home, Crane informed me that Nylah was waiting for me in her office. I changed out of my wet clothes and proceeded to attend the clandestine meeting. 

''Where have you been today?'' Nylah enquired 

''Oh, J took me to the circus'' I replied

Nylah opened her eyes wide, in shock

''What?'' I asked, feeling a little alarmed

''Nothing'' She said lighting up a cigarette 

''You know about his parents don't you?'' I asked, squinting my eyes 

''You do know I've known J since we were kids right?'' 

''Yeah, whats the deal with that? What happened?'' I prodded

''If he hasn't told you yet, then I'm afraid its not my place to say.'' She replied, breathing smoke into my face.

I swished it away and sat in silence

''And I wouldn't go around digging either'' She finished, noticing the devious look on my face

I held my hands up and 'agreed' not to. 

As if

Of course I was going to. That whole conversation had made me feel even more intrigued.

''Anyway, time is ticking. I hope you have thought about our little mission'' 

''I have''

''Good. Its in 48 hours.'' Nylah stated

''...Fab'' I trailed off

''As you are aware, you will be used as bait. The Del a Rosa's run a small Mexican 'cafe' downtown. Its a  shit hole but the food is amazing. Nonetheless they mostly use it to sell their drugs. You will 'stumble' in there and grace their eyes. The clientele is mostly men and cheap hookers... You'll fit right in'' She smiled

''Was that really necessary?'' I added

Nylah let out a sinister laugh ''I need you to kill two birds with one stone. It is important that you get close to one of the men and drop this, in his drink'' She said sliding across a ruby ring

I looked at her bewildered, and examined the ring

''Careful, it contains cyanide''

I quickly dropped it back down onto the table. 

''The gem opens up like a hatch. Couple drops of that shit in his drink and he's kaput.''

''You said its full with guys, how will I know who to target?'' I questioned

''Trust me. You'll know'' She assured ''Once that happens all hell will brake loose, and well you will be captured.''

''And then what?!''

''Well the rest is down to you. If you can play a good game of damsel in distress you live, if you act like a idiot and make poor decisions, you die.''

''You're suppose to save me though'' I replied

''I can't save you if you're already dead now can I Pussy cat? Be smart, and choose your words carefully. I know you have a bad habit of not doing that. The Del a Rosa's don't care if your tongue's pretty. They will cut it out and wrap it around their neck.''
