This will probably get buried, but when I was about 18 months old girls started going missing in and around the neighbourhood we lived in. One night the phone rang, my Dad answered it and an unknown man told him that he knew where his daughter was, that she was dead but he knew where she was. Thinking it was just a prank call, my dad told him his daughter was in bed and hung up.

It wasn't until later when the body of a girl was found and my Dad noticed her name in the paper and that we had the same surname, and lived on the same street. He reported the phone-call but the perpetrators went on to rape, torture and kill 3 more girls before their final victim escaped and they were arrested.

I was told about this when I was about 12 years old and we were still living in the same house, it scared the crap out of me. The killers were notorious in the suburb I grew up in, people would say things like "don't stay out to late or the Birnie's will get you", so I knew exactly what he was talking about.
