(Y/n) and Gandalf had begun their journey when the moon was still high in the sky. The pair moving quickly back to where the wizard had left the dwarves and a hobbit.

Despite his long life, despite all the things that he had seen and places that he had been, he still couldn't help but think that (Y/n) was something special. She had been born with her unseeing eyes; eyes that were as white as the snow that would come to rest on the peak of the Lonely Mountain. Her parents, after taking her to see Saruman the White for his advice, had left her with elves in Imladris; Lord Elrond happily taking her and raising her as part of his household, along with her cousin, Aragorn. The little girl, proving from a young age, that despite her inability to see; she had no intention of letting it hold her back. (Y/n) training with the elves every day, from the moment that Elrond would allow it. All around her, amazed with not only her skills with bow, sword and staff, as she grew; but with the way that she negotiated the world. It as if she could see everything just as well, if not even better, than the others that called Imladris, home. And now, as she made her way over the difficult terrain, without tripping or stumbling, even once; Gandalf couldn't help but smile, sure that he had made the right choice in coming to find the female Ranger. Sure, that her accompanying Thorin and the others on their quest, had been what Saruman had meant, when he had claimed that she was destined for something great.

"(Y/n), what............?" Gandalf began, as the Ranger suddenly stopped. Holding up a finger to her lips, to quiet the wizard for a moment. The white eyed woman seeming to stare at the large, pale moon that was growing low in the sky; listening intently to the sounds that surrounded her. Her nose twitching as a smell filled her senses.

"Your friends are in trouble. There are trolls, and I might be very wrong; but that smell could be the odour of cooking dwarf." (Y/n) explained, turning her attention back to the wizard for a moment, before they both hurried on their way once more.

                                                          >>-----------------------------------<<

(Y/n) hid in the shadows, as Gandalf made his way around the scene. She knew, just as well as the wizard, that the best way to deal with trolls, was sunlight. The Ranger just shaking her head, as the wily old Ishtar, had placed his hand on her shoulder and told her that he had an idea. (Y/n) doing her best not to laugh, as she heard a conversation between one of the Company, and the trolls. An amusing exchange about how best to cook dwarves; which then turned into claims that all those present, had parasites; worms in their tubes. Voices of decent calling out, before it went quiet for a moment, and then those same voices began to agree. Claiming that not only were they riddled with parasites; but one also announcing that he had parasites as big as his arm. The Ranger finding herself quite interested in the delaying tactic the male was using. Though, as it became obvious that he was beginning to struggle; she was glad to hear Gandalf's voice call out, accompanied by what appeared to be cracking of a rock.

"(Y/n)!" She heard the wizard call. The Ranger quickly making her way our from the cover of the trees.

"A little help if you will........." He continued. (Y/n) walking forward until her hands fell on a small body. The Ranger smiling under her hood upon hearing the little man gasp, as she helped untie the bag that was holding him; before moving on and finding a pile of others on the floor.

"And what is this.......?" A voice enquired harshly. The dwarf that she had just untied, quickly getting to his feet. (Y/n) sure that he must be glaring at her.

"That is not a this; that is a who. A Ranger from the north to be precise." Gandalf explained, as he assisted the dwarves that had been tied to a roasting spit, over the fire.

"A Ranger? First you make us bring along a hobbit, and now you bring us a man. We have no need of their kind; especially not one of those wandering vagabonds........."

"You are very good at making enemies of those that have come to help you, Thorin Oakenshield. I would not say that bodes well for your rule........." The wizard huffed. It obvious that his annoyance at the stubbornness at dwarves from the night before, had not completely subsided.

"And I have brought no man..........my dear............" Gandalf continued. (Y/n) taking that as her cue to remove her hood. The Ranger not sure whether to take the loud gasp that suddenly filled the air, as a good sign, or not.

"A woman! We do not need............." The same disgruntled voice came. The rest of the rant cut off, as another voice; the voice of the one that had done his best to delay the trolls, spoke.

"You.........you're the Ranger they call, White Eye. I.....I have read about you in my books.............."

"Yes, Bilbo. This is indeed White Eye; and I have asked her to help you on your journey. She knows the Wilds better than anyone I have ever met. She is the best one to guild you through your travels." Gandalf explained, as he made his way over to her. Placing his hand on her shoulder.

"And she is staying........" The wizard continued firmly. It obvious that no matter what the dwarves might think, they were stuck with her. (Y/n) chuckling, as she heard the muttering and grumbling.

"Well, since that is settled......" (Y/n) said, as she made her way over to the now stone trolls.

"What are trolls doing venturing this far south from the Ettenmoors..........?"
