Chapter 76- Promises

Nandini's POV:

It was a long day at work and I felt tired when I finally hit the bed. I felt like my body and soul found peace on bed. It's been two weeks since Manik left and long distance isn't our thing. He is going to come in a day and I can't wait for him. From waiting to meet him one day to waiting to see him at home, I have come a long way in my life and I can't be more happier than this. I rolled in my sleep and fell off the bed when I heard the door bell ring. I woke up with a thud as I fell down. Ouch, my back hurts. Who is it ringing the door bell now? It isn't still morning yet and I checked the time and it's just 3:15 early in the morning. Who could it be? I was deep in my thoughts and the person rang the door bell again. Is it some ghost? Aryaman used to warn me about the isolated house but I always used to say that I like this building.

It's been more than 15 days I shifted and I haven't experienced any paranormal activity. I heard the door bell again and now sleep is far away from me. Nandini kya zarurat thi iss building mein shift mein hona. I mean I liked it but I should have shifted after Manik returning. Movies mein bhi dikhate hai na, heroine will get stuck in the big lonely farm house. Itne horror films dekhne ke baad bhi meri akal theek nahi hui. Again the door bell rings. Lagta hai ye bhoot ko door bell ring karne ka shauk hai. Waise movies mein tho aise knock karke nahi aate hai ye log. Aise time mein tho mujhe ek weapon leke door open karke bhoot ka saamna karna padega. I got up while my back still hurts and searched for a flower vase with which I can hit the ghost. I gathered all my courage and took a deep breath before opening the door. I couldn't dare to see the ghost and closed my eyes tighter but I saw a bouquet of red roses standing before me. ''Surprise'' Manik said as he removed red roses aside. ''Manik'' I hugged seeing him. ''Tum phone kyu nahi uthaya. I've been standing here for last 15 minutes ringing the door bell and you are not even picking my calls too'' he said. 

I then remembered putting my phone on silent mode while going to sleep last night. Tho wo Manik tha aur koi bhoot nahi. Thank God. ''Nandini, kya hua? Tum kuch bol kyu nahi rahi?'' he asked. ''Mujhe laga ki koi bhoot aaya hoga. It's an odd timing na'' I said in a low voice as he entered. ''So, 15 minute se tum andar mujhe bhoot samaj ke dar gayi!'' he started laughing. ''Tum kal aane wale tha na, how come you are back before a day'' I asked him. ''For everyone, I said I will come tomorrow but I wanted to spend time with you so I came one day earlier so that we can spend today all alone'' he said. ''At least mujhe inform kar diya hota'' I said going to kitchen to have coffee after such dreaded 15 minutes. Manik followed me. ''Wo mujhe pata nahi tha ki tum itni darpok ho, warna inform kar deta'' he said trying to tease. ''But we have life time to know about each other'' he said giving me the red roses he bought for me. ''Yes, every day would be a new morning'' I said. I looked at the red roses even they have thorns around them. I hope humare life mein ye thorns bhi jaldi se khatam ho jaaye.

''I can't believe how we once called each other red flags and now we are exchanging red roses and smiles'' I said. ''Mujhe na tum red flag hi theek lagti thi. You would have announced everyone about our marriage. By now, you know how am I obsessed with you and red. If you are a red flag, be the color of my blood that runs in my veins all my time'' he said in an intense voice and I heard the sound of coffee machine. ''Tum pehle se aise pick up lines bolte the ya ab bolne ki aadat hogayi?'' I asked him. ''Main tho apne mann ki baat keh raha hu and I can't help if you think they are my pick up lines'' he said. ''Well, while I be your red flag, please be my green flag'' I said placing a bag in his hand. ''Seriously! I got you red roses and you give me this broccoli and lettuce'' Manik called me unromantic. ''Tum mere liye itna pyaar se phool leke aaya but I can't eat those so please make a green salad for me, my lovely green flag'' I said. 

''I think you are taking your diet seriously, fine I can make it for you but mujhe tumhara haath ke khaana pasand hai. Please make it for me. Waise bhi I believe in eating whatever you like in less quantities. Baad mein gym workouts se wo calories burn bhi kar sakte hai'' he said. I gave him coffee and leaned over him. ''Kya hua? You look too exhaustive'' he asked seeing me. ''No, nothing'' I replied. I just wanted to feel him by my side. Surprisingly Manik hugged me tightly. ''Our journey will not be easy Nandini, but I'm sure it will be worth at the end'' he said. ''End?'' end ka naam sunte hi mujhe dar lagne laga hai. ''Ha every start will have an end. Imagine 20 years baad, ya 30 years baad. I'll sit in the backyard waiting for you to get ready and come to me. Tab bhi tum 30- 40 minutes lagaogi ready hone mein. Humare bachche and our grand kids would be roaming around the house. I'm sure you will near allow them till the pool. Obviously, they will be cool like their grandpa and mind you, change your attitude by then, warna wo chote bachche tumhe old school dadi bulayenge'' he teased me. 

''Agar main dadi hui tho tum bhi dadaji ho na'' I said. ''No, my grand-kids will call me Manik'' he said. ''Hmm someone doesn't want to burn calories in bedroom but talks about the grandchildren'' I said. ''So Mrs. Malhotra, do you want me to make it up in bedroom now?'' he asked pulling me towards him. ''What if I say yes?'' I asked him. ''Thoda wait karna tho padega Nandini. Please understand'' he said as he leaned his forehead and mine. ''You said we have a life time to be together, I'll wait for a life time too'' I said kissing his forehead. ''I love you Nandini, please be on my side forever'' he said. ''Shaadi mein hum koi promises nahi kiya Manik, but we would promise each other every day. A promise to be together always. Humesha'' I said. 

Then we hugged each other, and don't know how long we've stayed like that.
