A few minutes later, they were standing in the building which turned out to be the huge lab of T'Challa's sister Shuri. They were all gathered around Vision already lying on a table where he was being inspected by Shuri, who was, to Freya's surprise, only a teenager. She went over Vision's body with her bracelet and then opened her hand, where a hologram of the stone appeared.

"The structure is polymorphic", she said.

"Right", Bruce answered. "We had to attach each neutron non-sequentially."

"Why didn't you just reprogram the synopsis to work collectively?"

Every head, including Vision's, turned to Bruce. "Because we didn't think of it", he answered.

Shuri shrugged with a grin. "I'm sure you did your best."

Freya choked on a laugh and Shuri's head shot to look at her. Freya held up her thumbs and Shuri smiled in response.

"Can you do it?", Wanda interrupted them and Shuri's face became more serious.

"Yes, but there are more than two trillion neurons here", she answered. "One misalignment could cause a cascade of circuit failures. It will take time, brother", she added with a nod in T'Challa's direction.

"How long?", Freya asked, looking out of the window to the field beneath, almost expecting Thanos to show up at that moment.

"As long as you can give me", Shuri answered.

Something next to Freya started beeping and she turned around to see the leader of the Fora Milaje - Okoye, T'Challa called her - look at a hologram on her hand. "Something's entered the atmosphere", she said.

Almost at the exact same time, Freya heard Sam's voice in her ear. "Hey Cap, we got a situation here", he said.

A second later, a huge explosion from outside shook the building and Freya rushed to the window just in time to see something exploding at the barrier right over their heads. She swore silently under her breath. They were here. She could only hope that the barrier would hold.

There was that damn word again. Hope. Slowly, she started hating it.

"We got more incoming outside the dome!", Rhodey shouted through her earpiece and yes, outside the barrier more spaceships were landing with an impact that sent the ground rumbling, even reaching the barrier which lit up with its blue light.

"It's too late", Vision said, the only one who didn't get up to stand at the window. But now he was sitting up, his hand clutching the wound on his stomach. "We need to destroy the stone now."

"Vision, get your ass back on the table", Natasha said and rushed over to help Vision lie down again.

"We will hold them off", T'Challa assured.

"Wanda, as soon as that stone is out of his head", Steve ordered and looked at Wanda, "you blow it to hell."

Wanda nodded and Freya whispered: "Hey, are you sure you will be all right up here?"

Wanda looked at Vision. "If they get up here, I am the only one that can protect him."

"That's not what I asked."

Wanda sighed but turned to look at Freya. "I mean, do I have a choice? If I did I would still be in Scotland right now, living a peaceful life with him. But now I have to fight either way and if I had to decide I would have chosen to fight next to him, protecting his life."

Freya swallowed. Why did her sister have to grow up so fast? "So you love him?", she asked silently.

"Yes", Wanda breathed as if saying it for the first time. "Yes, I  love him."
