Jack knocked on Evelyn's door and it almost instantly swung open. The brunette watched his car pull up on the driveway through her bedroom window and rushed down to meet him.

"I would've picked you up some flowers before coming over, but all the florist were closed." Jack nervously chuckled as he looked up to the moon, it was nearly midnight, he wasn't expecting the girl to even be awake.

"You don't have to buy me flowers." Evelyn giggled as she stepped out of the way so that Jack could enter the house.

Jack smiled thankfully as she stepped inside, he placed his hand on the small of the girls back and guided her towards the living room.

"I know it's late, I told you I'd come." Jack paused. "Honestly, I expected you to be asleep."

"You told me to wait up, Lieutenant, so, now that you've kept me awake." Evelyn paused with a teasing smile. "Would you like a drink and a game of cards? I'm pretty good."

Evelyn spoke with so much confidence and Jack couldn't help but find it attractive. His eyes flickered up and down the girl, she wore an old sweater that was far to big for her, he just assumed that it was Bucky's. Underneath the sweater she wore a pair of striped pyjama pants.

"I have another idea." Jack spoke up confidently. "But I'll still take the drink."

The brunette gave the man a confused look before rushing off to get a bottle of wine and two glasses. She smiled towards him before handing him a glass and filling it with wine, before filling up her own.

"So, lieutenant." Evelyn took a daring step closer to the man. "What do you have in mind?"

Jack let out a small chuckle before pulling his gun out of the holster and twirling it around on his finger cockily. He tucked the girls hair behind her ear, the gun brushing against her cheek slightly, causing her breath to hitch. He leant down and whispered,

"I'm going to teach you how to defend yourself."

He knew that it would be stupid to think that himself or another agent could always protect Evelyn from harm. There was always going to be a point in the day where she was alone and vulnerable and he didn't like the idea of that, so he was going to change it.

"I-I don't know about that." Evelyn nervously stuttered due to how close they were. There was no denying that Jack made her feel some type of way. He made her heart race and her stomach flip.

"Evie," Jack stood up straight and looked down at the girl. "you need to know how to do this, you're the only one at SSR that never had any training, do you know that?"

Evelyn shook her head, she didn't know that. But truthfully, she wasn't that surprised. When she was younger, Bucky always took care of anyone who was being mean to her or Steve, she never had the opportunity to learn since her brother was always there.

"Come on, let's go to outside." Jack nodded with a small smirk, leading the girl towards her back yard.

The brunette let out a small huff, drinking her wine as he pulled her along, deciding that if she was going to shoot a gun for the first time ever, she would need it.

Jack twirled his revolver around in his hands before handing it to Evelyn. The girl gave him a blank look, before taking the gun.

"Is this expensive?" Jack questioned as he held up the wine glass that she gave him earlier.

"It's Howard Starks house, everything in it is expensive." Evelyn responded sarcastically. "But if you're asking if he'll miss it, no he won't."

The blonde man hummed in response before drinking the contents and going to place it on a bird bath in the middle of the yard. He watched as Evelyn furrowed her brows at his actions.

"You're gonna shoot at it." Jack responded as he made his way behind the girl. He placed his hands on her bicep, she was holding the gun pretty accurately, he assumed that she got that knowledge from constantly watching the people surrounding her hold guns.

She was a quick learner and often picked things up quickly. Both the Barnes siblings were huge nerds and often had their heads stuck in books or always writing things down. Evelyn couldn't help but miss those days.

"Like this?" Evelyn questioned, her breathing becoming heavy as she felt how close Jack was. She could feel his warm breath on the back of her neck, she had to keep reminding herself to focus on the task at hand.

Jack had quickly become distracted, the sweater that the girl was wearing had fallen off her shoulder, exposing her soft skin. Every part of him wanted to move her hair to one side and place a gentle kiss on her bare shoulder.

"Jack?" Evelyn whispered, turning to face the man, causing their noses to brush against one another.

She hadn't expected him to be so close. Her eyes flickered between his hazel eyes and his lips. They were so close and the tension was rising. His grip on her biceps tightened slightly as his eyes remained on her lips. His tongue ran over his bottom lip, desperately wanting to kiss her.

He cleared his throat and pulled away from the girl, he looked around nervously and ran his hand over his face before saying,

"Yeah, yeah, you look-that looks good." Jack stuttered over his words. He didn't miss the way that the girls head lowered, avoiding eye contact with him. It made him wonder if she was thinking about kissing him too.

Evelyn plastered a smile on her face and pushed aside her emotions before lining up the gun with the glass, pushing off safety and pulling the trigger.

The glass moved slightly, since the bullet skimmed it didn't quite smash it. Jack smiled proudly, it was a start, they could get better with time.

"Go again." He encouraged with a beaming smile as he watched the girl.
