Pain.
It's like fire, burning, aching, pain.
The doctor opened the window, but the cold air isn't helping what feels like fire. He's still barely holding on to consciousness, in hopes of seeing his princess.
He'll stay awake, for her. To see her.
He can hear the chatter from outside his door; it seems like his sense are elevated, everything seems so loud. Loud and intruding.
There's a noise, and he looks up, and sees an angel.
Standing at his window, in nothing but a thin dress, leaves in her hair, no shoes on her feet. Her eyes are teary; why is she crying? He wonders.
Surely it can't be for him.
She stands at the edge of his bed now, her sweet voice whispering his name.
"Shoto."
He opens his eyes all the way now, and he sees his princess, his love, his everything. He must be dreaming, surely.
"Oh, god, Shoto," she whispers. She sounds sad. Her tears fall quietly down her face.
Why is she crying?
She takes his hand, and it feels as if the pain has gone away. The burning, bristling heat is cooled at her touch.
"Hello, my love," he says to her, wondering if it's even real. Is she hurt again? That weird hurt that he can heal? "have you gotten another headache?" He asks. "Do you need a hug?"
"No, no," she says, her voice like honey, "I just wanted to see you."
It feels as if his heart skips a beat. He wants to hug her anyway.
She stands up, dropping his hand, and the pain returns. God, how he wishes she would take it away. But she looks concerned with something else, so he doesn't say anything more.
"Shoto," she says, starting to leave, "I'll be back, okay? You'll be fine, I promise."
Her back is turned, and he knows she probably won't hear him, but he says it anyways:
"Come back, my angel," he reaches out his hand for her, "I need you."
But she's gone, and he's sure she didn't hear him.
He lets the darkness overcome him, her voice echoing in his mind.
"Shoto."
