Ian knocked on the familiar door before taking a step back. He waited a few seconds before knocking a second time and then a third.

On the last knock, the door swung open and Amy opened the door with an apologetic smile.

"I'm sorry, I was working out downstairs." she apologized and Ian waved it off.

"That's alright,"

"Come in," she stepped aside to let him through and with slight hesitation, he stepped through the doorway.

For the most part, Ian wasn't sure why he was here. He knew he wanted to talk to Amy but he wasn't sure why they decided that her home was the place to do so. In his preference, Ian wanted to do this in public.

"Do you want anything to drink?" Amy asked as he closed the door behind her and Ian turned to face her.

"Do you still have-"

"Kombucha?" Amy finished for him with a small smile and Ian nodded. Together they made their way to the kitchen.

"How are you?" Ian asked in conversation as he stood on the other side of the island top. Amy grabbed him a bottle of mango kombucha from the fridge and slid it over to him.

"Uh, you probably shouldn't ask me that?" She asked and Ian frowned at her.

"Why not?"

"I probably shouldn't answer that," Amy replied and Ian's frown deepened.

"Okay, So no small talk," Ian muttered and took a sip of his drink.

"Yeah, no small talk. Why don't you just tell me what you need to tell me and we can just move on from there?" Amy blinked at him placed the cap on his drink and stared at Amy.

"Why are you being like this?" He asked and with a scoff Amy turned her eyes away from him and took in a deep breath.

"You've got to be kidding?"

"Amy, why are you angry with me?" Ian asked and Amy turned to look at him.

"Why are you here, Ian?" She asked.

"Because I wanted to apologize," Ian replied in confusion. Amy knew this, the two had talked on the phone the week before to set up this time.

"Okay then do it," Amy shrugged.

"Why are you closing up on me right now?" Ian asked in a softer tone.

"Because," Amy gave him a sad smile. "When I open up, you walk in and hurt me and then you walk out." She replied and he blinked at her in confusion.

"Ian, I was terrified when Annabelle was struggling to breathe and I was even more terrified that there was nothing I could do. I didn't know the proper steps to take." She told him and Ian nodded.

"But when I came to you to explain that, you literally kicked me out and decided that you didn't want anything to do with me anymore." Amy choked out as she quickly wiped away a tear that had escaped.

"You didn't allow me to apologize for that and you didn't allow me to apologize to Annabelle. You just ended things right then and there and I was left to handle this guilt all on my own."

"I had to be there for my daughter," Ian walked around the kitchen island and stood in front of her.

"I know," Amy cried. "And I admire that about you. And I need you to know that I love everything about Annabelle and I love you so much. But this coming second thing has taken such an effect on me and I didn't even realize it until you tossed me aside." She sidled and Ian reaches over and wiped away the tears from under her eyes before holding onto her face.
