Nami walked into the apartment and dropped her bag on the floor next to the door and made her way to her room. But Avery sitting on the couch in the living room stopped her midway.

"Aren't you supposed to be at work?" She asked taking out her phone and checking the time. "Like, right now?"

"I called in sick," Avery muttered and Nami frowned and walked closer to her friend. A half empty bottle of vodka was open on the coffee table and Avery slipped on a clear liquid in a glass in her hand.

"You don't look sick,"

"Last I checked, you gave up studying medicine to become a teacher." Avery snapped and Nami raised her eyebrows at her.

"What the hell is wrong?" Nami asked and Avery sipped the rest of her drink as if it was water.

"Okay," Nami stepped closer and grabbed the bottle out of her reach.

"Hey," Avery pointed at the bottle then at her empty cup. "I need what's in there, to be in here."

"You can't turn to drinking whenever there's a problem, that's how alcoholics are made."

"Interesting, now give me that!" Avery stood up and reached again. But Nami quickly went to the kitchen sink and held the bottle over the drain hole.

"Don't you fucking dare," Avery warned.

"Talk to me instead,"

"There's nothing to talk about. My world is about to come crumbling down and I'd prefer to not be sober during it."

Nami stared at her distressed friend for a moment, trying to figure out what could possibly be causing this emotional outburst but nothing came to mind.

Unless Cameron Brings contacted her.

"Did Cameron call you again?"

"Damn, I actually wish this was a Cameron problem. Unfortunately, it's not and I need to drink." Avery slurred and held her hand out.

"No," Nami shook her head.

The glass cup in Avery hand went flying towards Nami and the angry blonde let out a scream. Ducking just in time for the cup to shatter against the wall, Nami stood up and stared at her friend in horror.

"Oh my God," Avery shouted before going to her friend. Guilt and fear coursed through her veins and she grabbed onto Nami's arm and turned her to her.

"Are you okay? I'm so sorry," she apologized and Nami let out quick, short breaths.

"I'm sorry," Avery muttered and Nami's face turned sour at her friends alcohol reeking breath.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Nami shouted and stepped out of Avery's grip.

"Jack is coming back!" Avery shouted and she squeezed her eyes shut. She's afraid of going into another panic attack and she's fighting everything to not go to the dark memories.

"Who the hell is Jack?"

Tears stung Avery's  eyes and she let out a loud groan before running her hands through her hair and grabbed fistfuls of her curls.

Nami picked up on what was going on and she placed the bottle of vodka on the counter and stepped towards her friend.

"Avery, I need you to breathe through this for me and help me understand." Nami asked kindly before going to the cabinet where they keep their dishes.
